I found it to be a colossal PITA to friction shift on a 10-speed cassette. It's such a narrow distance from cog-to-cog that I was constantly fine-tuning my shifts. Swapped for a 9-speed cassette (and no other hardware changes) and I was back to shifting in smooth mode blissfully. Or, index the
