I did the silicone thing on a bike once. Holds the wire in place for sure. Downsides: 1) Takes a while to dry, and you have to hold the wire in place with masking tape, etc., until it does 2) Won’t want to come off. You’ll have to scrape it off, which could damage the paint. I never did manage

I need a small segment of aluminium fender to use to repair one of mine. I plan to cut out a piece and put it underneath my fender to keep a small crack from spreading, so appearance is not a big deal. My fender is about 40mm wide edge to edge (probably Berthoud, but I’m not sure), but if yours

Sean: If nothing else works, get an aluminum soda or beer can and cut out a small shim—enough to wrap around the bar. An aluminum can is about 0.097mm thick, so wrapping it once around the bars will add about 0.2mm diameter, which might make up a small difference between your bars and stem

I know it sounds basic, but you’re sure the bars and stem are the same size? It’s hard to tell by looking at them. With long bars like the Albas, you’re applying a lot of torque on the stem/bar connection, so it’s going to be a little harder than usual to keep them from rotating. --Eric

Depending on the height of your seat, the bag would have to hang pretty low to be in contact with the exposed part of the cable. Even then, I would think it might make a mark but wouldn’t damage the bag. There’s not enough movement in the cable to do much harm. --Eric Norris
