What's with the rounded tip knife? I don't get why the round tip makes it
kiddie safe. Seems more dangerous to me (as the Riv site alludes to -- it

The opinels are great for sure. Tons of bang for the buck.
I have a couple other inexpensive knives that have proven surprisingly
hearty and get tons use. I've had several examples of both and all have
been found at thrift stores and garage sales but are readily available for
20-30 bucks.
I need a kitchen utility knife -- not for food, for heavy and dull-making
stuff like cutting open boxes, peeling the foil off liquor bottles, and
such; the old Victorinox has too small a blade, so I'll be interested to
see what the new stock looks like.

quality stainless steel ones -- Henckels -- are very hard for me to
sharpen; while non-stainless -- Old Hickory is the brand I have --
sharpens easier and, moreover, responds to a steel

I have a growing-old BLUG post in the saved folder that announces we're not
going to keep selling Opinels. Some guys here checked to see if VO had 'em
and they came up blank, but --missed it, or something. Opinels are for
