If you go friction it doesn't matter. You don't have to lock yourself into a specific cassette. That being said, 7 speed cassettes are still sold cheap and plenty by Shimano. If you want higher end, you can just cobble together your own cassette. Grand Bois still does 6 speed cassettes. The

If you mean the Nitto RM-013 Dirt Drops, the listed size is measured at the ends, where the Noodle sizes reflect the width at the hoods. The RM-013 flares at the ends of the drops a little more. I think a 48cm Noodle is actually 48cm at the hoods, where the 52 RM-013 is closer to 46cm at the

Compass makes a 42. Compass tires are a bit wider than they are tall. Other tire makers apparently make relatively taller tires. Bottom line is you can only go by the number so far. Somewhere Jan Heine describes how to measure. A quick google searc didn’t find it bit I know it’s out there.
