do seem more fun/adventurey/MTB-suitable with a whole 120mm in extra width,

Leah, count me in! I want a Cheviot to compliment my Clem that lets me:
- Feel light, agile and "fast" for road riding while upright and seeing
everything
- Put one foot on the pavement when I stop at an intersection without
getting off the saddle (love that about Clem)
- Easily

speed an awful lot the past few years, so I think I’d lean toward downtube

I currently ride a Soma San Marcos and an Appaloosa. For those not
familiar, the San Marcos frame was a collaboration between RBW and Soma
Fabrications. I think my San Marcos is closest to the Roadini, but I would

Agree. I went out this morning and found I had a flat rear tire (slow
leak!). So I put that bike away and took out my other bike. Assuming you
have the room, it is nice to have more than one bike. Otherwise, if you

and sold a ton of bikes (they all said WE KNOW, JOE!) and often had four or
five around at one time. Even considering at least one was usually a folder

Bones, I just took the front bar-end silver shifter off the bar (Shimano)
and put it on the down tube, where the front shifter already was...it
honestly feels like it shifts better, for whatever reason, and it's just so
nice on the Roadini to have the bars less messy. My vote is downtube!

I’m running near the same setup on my Clem. Vintage Deore cranks with stock
Clem rings, GX Eagle RD, Eagle chain, Sunrace cassette, and Microshift 12spd
barcon. I’ve had no issues whatsoever. It shifts perfectly in index mode, but
friction is a little tricky.

My perhaps ill informed view is that once you get reasonably stiff more
stiff is not noticeable, and that rivs by and large are stiffer than what
the flexy frame proponents have in mind. E.g. one notable guy once told me
that an AHH was not a performance bike because it had oversize

I doubt many folks really "need" a custom. But there are loads of reasons
to want one, and if you can pay for it why not? There are lots of worse
ways to spend ones money.

Hehe, yeah, "need" is probably the wrong word in the thread title. It's more
like this: If you use your bike every day and would like certain features and a
certain look and you have the cash, pay up! A Riv Custom may be pricey, but
it's a heckuva lot cheaper than a new car.
