And the insurance issue is one I totally understand. It's just other aspects of this particular group that I have problems with. Anyway, in MN you need to be a member of TCBC before riding a brevet. The insurance cost is included in the $10 ride fee, as well as printing brevet cards, maps, and release forms; purchasing envelopes and postage to return brevet cards; and gasoline for pre-driving the route if I have not ridden it recently. [RBW] Fizik Handle Bar Wrap and New Lighting Set-up
After the recent post concerning leather handlebar wraps, I thought the group might be interesting in seeing some photos of my Rivendell Road Standard with the Fizik Microtex honey brown handlebar tape. As I previously have mentioned, this tape isn't available from any U.S. sources that I'm aware of, and I ordered it from a UK seller. I've also recently added a lighting set-up to the bike using an older NOS Sanyo Dynapower bottom bracket generator that was in my parts stash. This isn't the Cat's meow of generator systems, like the Schmidt SON 28, but it suits my needs well. I very rarely ride at night, so an expensive hub generator (and new wheel build) just doesn't make sense for me. I bought a bag of Tagua Nutwinks for each of my kids (daughter-7, and son-9) for Christmas: http://www.rivbike.com/products/show/tagua-nutwinks/31-537 They rock. We've already had several sessions of game inventing and competition. The material is amazing. You'd bet a dollar it was plastic: like a heavy high quality plastic. They stand up to vigorous winking (the long distance challenge that my son came up with is a high leverage endeavor). I think tiddly winking is good for hand strength and coordination, and there are never too many games you can play with your kids that aren't a video game. I'll take them to my next S24O too, maybe for a competition on who does dishes. $20 is steep, but they are A) MUSA and B) $8 to charity and C) help add value to rainforest trees that are being clearcut. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Fizik Handle Bar Wrap and New Lighting Set-up
Eric, I'm not sure if you're asking about the Nitto rack bolt, or a source for the bracket...? If you need the bracket, I ordered mine from Mike Kone at Rene Herse Bicycles: http://www.renehersestore.com/servlet/the-341/Light-Bracket-for-Edelux/Detail They custom make this aluminum bracket to fit the Nitto M12 rack that they use on the Boulder Bicycle All Road and Randonneur bicycles. I had to do some judicious filing and Dremel tool work on the bracket to get it to fit a Busch Muller Lumotec light, but it wasn't that difficult (the bracket is designed to fit the Edelux and Cyo headlamps). The bracket isn't cheap, but it definitely provides a very rigid mount for the light that won't jiggle even over a rough road surface. If you're mostly interested in the Nitto rack bolts, I had one available that I used. Rivendell obviously has them available (per the post from William). [RBW] Re: AHH Gets A New Old Crank Set, Old Rear Derailleur - Feels Fantastic !
Sweet ride! I will look you up if I'm in Detroit. I have family there. Likewise to you if you find yourself in Louisville. I'm 6'4 and my PBH is around 96cm. I've got nowhere near your reach. I bet my reach is in the 90cm range. Just found out it will ship today or tomorrow and couldn't be more excited. I always build my bikes myself and it's one of my absolute most favorite things to do. The build will be a combination of new and old parts, Brooks, Mavic, 105, Ultegra, DuraAce, Silver, Nitto, King (cages, not headset/hub/bottombracket), etc. I'll run Jack Browns and Marathon Supremes (35 and 40mm) on it most likely. I was thinking about giving the Grand Bois Cypres tire a whirl too. Oh, and I gotta put some Honjo's on it too. And a generator huband an Acorn bar bag.and a front rack and some sweet lights.andandand. Very excited! I was very particular about the size of this frame, as the 64cm Bombadil I own and tour on is a *just a tiny tiny* bit big when running super fatty 29er tires. So I used my experience from that frame to try to hopefully dial in the size perfectly. Of course, Keven is the man when it comes to offering great guidance. I will post photos of both rides when the Hilsen is complete! Cheers! Patrick Louisville, Ky On Jan 5, 1:40 pm, AmiSingh asd...@gmail.com wrote: It's a 69! How tall are you Pat? What's your PBH? How about length, arm-to-arm? I'm 6'7 on a good day, and my PBH hovers at 98-99-100, depending on how hard I pull up. Across my back, fingertip to fingertip is 102cm. Either way, you should trust the guys at Riv. They know what they're doing! Congrats on your new Hilsen. How are you building it up? Are the guys in Walnut Creek building it for you? Be sure to send some photos! You're welcome in Detroit anytime you'd like to take an urban ride, and Ann Arbor is just a short drive away. Re: [RBW] Re: New News Post
Same for me.. I'm 6'6 but after getting married and kids, working all the time, I went up to 260. A lot for my frame, where as 215 was too low. I was at the gym, doing weights, machines, 180 crunches of various types, riding a lot and nothing until I started cutting out a lot of sugar and carbs (10 #'s in one week after switching from sugared soft-drinks!), until I got to around 230 +/-. Perfect for me (think power forward rather than tight-end), and know what happened, and it seemed like over night? A six-pack appeared! Riding suffered until I picked-up on Paleo Diet for Athletes. I learned to use carbs/sugar as fuel-still haven't perfected that yet, but the work continues. Mostly it was about 1-2 lbs a week, which I'm told is a healthy way to do it. When I raced in my teens, I was this tall and weighed about 175, but had the same legs as now only I was emaciated looking from the waist up, but that was equally unhealthy-I couldn't do any physical work whatsoever. I seem to have found a decent middle ground. Now if I wasn't so old and so ugly. [RBW] Re: AHH Gets A New Old Crank Set, Old Rear Derailleur - Feels Fantastic !
Not too often does a 6'3 guy feel short, but it happens once in a while. RE crank length: for me, most of my bikes are 175s, but I've got a couple with 170s and I don't notice a huge difference. I mean we're only talking about 1/5 of an inch difference. I think I feel, and sorta buy the cadence concept - maybe a little easier to spin the 170s, and more leverage with the 175s. I guess physics and physiology dictate that. I'm going to try 180s on my current winter project, and I'm looking forward to it. It's a mid-70s road bike built up with vintage Campagnolo NR. I'm hoping the 180s will help in the mountains, when I'm grunting with the 42-28 low. 180 was the preferred length for Eddy (the Cannibal) Merckx in the mountain stages, so it's gotta be worth a try. Really cool bike - thanks for sharing. Alex Moll Marysville, WA -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
