Thanks for the tips, guys. Paint thinner didn't seem to work too well, so
I thought a stiffer brush might be needed. I can try WD40 and if that
doesn't work, can get Naptha at the hardware store or HD without too much
trouble. Steve

Cranks have been sold. Wheelset and stem still available. Willing to
split the wheels and freewheels if there is interest.

Why I prefer 700c to 650b: I have a backup set of wheels that I can
pop on my bike that have Schwalbe ice tires (studded) mounted. What a
luxury to have those when I wake up with ice on the road.
While I'm sure somewhere in a parallel universe there are 650b
studdies, I have never seen them,
When I was racing very, very long ago, our sponsor was the (French!)
manufacturer of some let's call 'em basic frames. We did
disproportionately well on those heavy, ugly things, substandard
wheels, too, and took pride in the fact our results were so good in
spite of them.

For me, a song is the price of those studded tires versus going down
for sure on the ice, and sliding under an automobile wheel.

I shared this impromptu video I made on a short ride I took yesterday on
the iBOB list already, but since the bike is definitely Riv-inspired I
thought I would share it here, too. The bike is an old Koga-Miyata Valley

Hey,
I recommend you have the LBS run a set of BB taps thru your shell. That will
clean it up real nice.

Thread taps will clean up the threads if they are deformed, but the
shop would probably appreciate it if the abrasive grit was out of the
threads first.

The plastic bikes (race bikes) are faster... and by a rather significant
percentage point. It's still about the engine. I pass people going up hill

As an investment, it makes sense to build the dynamo wheel in 700c,
since you can use it more easily on your other bikes, and it would be
easier to sell. I would build the new dynamo front wheel with 700c,
and rebuild the rear wheels later. You could use a puffier tire in
front to keep everything

Your friendly LBS may be willing to run their taps through for you. If so, be
sure to buy your stuff there whenever you can ( goes without saying). Brass or
stiff nylon brush is also good, use radially ( follow the thread in a circular
motion) rather than in n' out.

I'm selling my 60cm Sam. Single top tube model, now unobtainium in this
size. The frame is in almost new condition, one tiny nic in the paint (see
photo). Very low miles. It's a fairly classic build, with 48cm Nitto

Thanks again for the helpful tips. Mission accomplished: Cleaned the

Thanks; many suggestions for the Paselas. I found the Tourguards rather
doggy but the 559X32 non-Tourguards were OK. We'll see -- perhaps I'll just
postpone building any new wheels this year and buy a set of regular Paselas
after Xmas on sale; perhaps next year for 700c wheels plus Grand Bois
