Wow. I eat my words. it IS as nice as what I'd conjured up in my head! Trying to make out some details and put some things together: so the napkin rings are reinforcements at the top and bottom of the headtube, and the top tube and down tube are tigged? Neat look. Maybe the hooded/breezer/wright/ibis style rear dropout too? Can't make out detail at the bottom bracket. For some reason, I'm only seeing one photo. Grant, let me help you with your questions (yes, I know you weren't asking me directly, and that they were not really questions): - No bottle mounts. I thik that’s kind of neat, but it’s not neat if it’s a dealkiller, and it will surely be that for somebody, so on they’ll go. - Good! Because you know many of your riders will go on long meandering rides. And drink at the same time. - we might turn the rear fender mount down 90 deg. A case can be made either way. - For the fenders you sell, it is easier if it is facing backwards. - raise the upper rack mounts 20mm? Probably, but no bigge if we don’t. - No bigge to me. (We New Yorkers like biggie, like the notorious one.) - move the kickstand plate forward almost an inch. So there’s a balance of clearance. - Balance is good. - the binder bolt cavity is an odd surprise. - Let's not have TOO many surprises - keep this standard like other bikes, please, even if it does fit a very common bolt. Other things: - Can we have two eyelet's up front - rack and fender, please? Mid-fork's might not be necessary with canti studs there for the asking. - If you are selling them complete only, you should have a dyno upgrade option (since you have that big box of dyno-hubs lying around). - Where's the shifter going? Thumbie on bar? - I like a lot of the details - 1x8 - makes sense, shifts great. - Nice 'n' wide tires - Pre-sale??? I had kind of thought that the fixed seatstay angle would be more limiting and meant that these three frame size / wheel size combinations were going to be it. So, if it sells as well as I hope it does for them and, if one of these first sizes just doesn't fit, maybe there's still hope???!! Also, I've heard mixed reviews as to whether you could feel any additional compliance on the Ritchey Plexus, that featured something like this, but it sure couldn't hurt. Being long, these might exaggerate the effect. While I'm at it, here's the only uneducated, unsolicited suggestion I might make: Assuming the rear canti hanger is located WAY down the chainstays, it seems like the brake cable routing could be moved to the underside of the top tube. That way, the cable stops would be less likely to get banged up. And a smooth, snag-free top tube is always a nice thing - but especially if you're a guy and are riding a frame that is slightly too big. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. So far, it is interesting. The colour is great, the flat fork crown, kickstand plate, the 1 x 8 speed are all things I like. I also like no bottle bosses, I think they ruin the aesthetic of the bike. I know I am a minority in this regard. Surprised about the cantilever brakes and they curved seat stays, not my style. I think a bike at this price point is a great idea. I think this would be the *perfect *replacement for the ubiquitous LHT. In my experience, most people w/ a Trucker use it as a commuter/all-rounder rather than a touring bike. This would be a better looking if not better performing alternative!!! As long as that price point can be held, it is a game-changer. It definitively needs at least one set of bottle mounts though. [RBW] FS -- 56cm Bombadil
Hi, folks! My medium blue 56cm Bombadil is for sale. This is the first of what will likely be several Rivs (Bleriot, Atlantis?) of similar size that I'll probably put up for sale here as I try to fund a new project. I'd be happy to sell it as a frame/fork/headset/BB, or as a complete bike. Frame/fork/headset/BB, asking $1200 shipped. There are some chips and rubs, no dents. If I kept it I would probably have had it repainted, but I'm a bit fastidious about such things. It's a great frameset. Full build list attached, includes high-polish Bruce Gordon cantis with Paul levers, Peter Weigle-modified Campy front hub, White Industries ENO Eccentric rear, Stronglight crank with custom Bespoke Chainrings single ring, Phil Wood pedals, Nitto Bullmoose bars, Nitto Lugged seatpost, Berthoud rack/saddlebag combo. About $4500 invested. I know this bike is not for everyone, but if you're interested you won't find another bike like it anywhere. Re: [RBW] Clem on the Blug
At least two water bottles is a MUST. That clean look quickly goes away when you have various dorky clamped on bottle holders. I often end up carrying extra bottles for my kids when we go on family bike rides, so for this kind of bike, more is better. Wondering if the 59cm will be big enough for me, and wishing they had a frameset only option, because this looks pretty darn sharp. My Sam is my commuter/errand bike, rides are very rarely over an hour, I don't need water for that. If I do a longer ride I throw my bottle in the basket up front. Now if I did longer fun rides, I might think differently. I see the new Clem as not a LHT wannabe as some of you do but more of a commuter/errand/fun bike. The 1 x 8 and long chain stays point me in the direction. I use my Sam for a commuter/errand bike, rides are rarel longer than an hour so I don't need water. The few times I need water I throw the bottle in my basket up front. If I did longer rides, I might change my mind and put a holder on the seat tube. The new Clem gives me the impression that this bike is a fun/errand/commuter bike. With the long stays, 1 x 8 drive train and room for and I am guessing here, humongous tires, hence the cantilever brakes points me in that direction. Tom knows I'm tempted to buy his cool bluey to go with my orangey. That would be pretty excessive to own two Bombadils. If I kept it I would probably have had it repainted, but I’m a bit fastidious about such things. It’s a great frameset. Full build list attached, includes high-polish Bruce Gordon cantis with Paul levers, Peter Weigle-modified Campy front hub, White Industries ENO Eccentric rear, Stronglight crank with custom Bespoke Chainrings single ring, Phil Wood pedals, Nitto Bullmoose bars, Nitto Lugged seatpost, Berthoud rack/saddlebag combo. [RBW] Re: WTB/WTT: Over-the-knee knicker socks
Patrick, have you tried simply using kilt-length socks? Is there a specific reason you want over the knee? From years of wearing a kilt in all types of weather, there is very little reason to cover the knees (except when crawling over ice flows at -10˚F, which peals the skin right off). You may be able to get by with tall socks that anchor above the calf. With abandon, Patrick -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
