This is probably the frame that convinced me to try clear powdercoats. I
love the look, but the visible creeping rust had me start using colors
after a few years. Steve

The most expensive at Ksh 2799/- comes out to about $28. We wore the
cheapos with low-grade crepe rubber soles, which usually wore a hole
through at front sole or front upper within 3 months.

I had a blue 54 Ram that I converted to 650b. I was able to use the Tektro
long reach brakes on the front and back with Synergy rims and 42mm Hetre
tires with fenders. On the rear, I had to use thinline V-brake style pads
to prevent rubbing of the brake pad on the tire.
When I switched to A32
Thanks again to everyone, I did learn quite a lot from you all, which
made this more fun than aggravation.
I solved this problem with a Surly Brake hanger. Kind of a tight fit
length-wise, but it works. I checked out everyone's suggestions once again
before going forward, but it was
You're right, those head tube lugs on the green "shivatakosuke" instagram
are completely different than the ones on my bike. I'd be surprised if it
was a rebadged Roadeo, as I was under the impression the clearances were
tighter on that design? I also had no clue there were "unauthorized"
I've only seen it on the Susie and it has more of a reddish rust look to me
than on XO-1. But that's a solid-color bike, it may look different with white
panels.

It sure looks close. I'm head to Walnut Creek tomorrow specifically to
look at this orange! I have my Appaloosa with Rick at D getting it
painted an orange that I think is close to the old construction pumpkin.

Dear All,
My derby tweed crewneck arrived while I was out of the country. I've had a
chance to wear it for a day and a half, and have the following initial
impressions:
It is a fine-wale 2X2 knit. Various grey tones with some green in it. It
reads as green under florescent lights, and grey in
Seems like a poor BB spec on Riv’s part, since the Clem can fit up to a
2.5” or so tire.

I follow the Instagram user linked by Reid and while it's a cool bike, i'm
not entirely certain it is a Rambouillet. For one thing, it looks like it
uses the Homer/Roadeo head lugs, not the Rambouillet ones. It also seems to
have shorter chainstays than other Rambouillets I've seen (including
I'm not sure it's totally down to the crankset, as the demo bike my wife

It's worth mentioning that Riv's commitment to square taper cranks does
allow a relatively simple solution to the problem,
Thursday Boot Company:

Many boot enthusiasts (search online) testify that these boots are just as
well-made and durable as boots that look similar and cost more. Supposedly
the Thursday Boot people charge a lower markup. Don't know if that's true
or not.

That's interesting, Joe--I did not know they had changed the crank on the

Sugino XD2, for use on an old mountain bike and I like the looks of that
crank a lot.

The conflict is the bike was originally spec'd with Sugino cranks, then Riv
switched to the very low Q Silver. The ones I've ridden were so "off" to me
that I kept missing the pedals because I expected them to be wider apart. If I
owned one now I would swap the stock BB (I think it's 110) for a
I guess it depends on how you use your bike and how chill a human you are.
Me, I tend to be less chill about things like that. It shouldn't happen on
a bike that's supposedly spec'd for tires that big (or quite frankly, any
properly designed bike). If it's just a matter of spacers not being
Is it me or does the new Appaloosa orange look very close to the XO-1 orange?

EDIT: The Bruce Gordon currently has Grand Bois "Cerf" 26s.
I have had both 28s and 30s on it in the past. 30s are probably the max.

Don't sleep on Chippewa boots either, I find they fit my wide foot/narrow

This touches on why I've never seriously considered a 650b conversion of my
early, orange Rambly. It's just such a fine bike with 700c. I have 650b
bikes too; variety is good. Steve
