Just to chime in on VO Polyvalent.
I bought one of the lilac ones and set it up as close to the set up of my

Just be careful of one thing. DO NOT attempt to adjust fender line by
pulling on the fender struts.
Yes, that's how you do it with plastic fenders. Doing it with aluminum
fenders is the kiss of death.
You adjust the fender line (i.e., the arc of the fender and how its
curve matches up
Thanks, Steve. I pilfered the front strut from something I saw on Jan's
site. Used a theology book (they are all beefy) to bend it uniformly. Grin.
I think Ye Ol' Shoppe left the rear fender out as far as the struts allow,
also, it's in low gear, so wheel forward, which exaggerates the look vs.
I like what you've done with the front extra support strut. I kind of
wonder about the rear fender line -- that's a lot of space behind the
wheel -- but you may need that to be able to remove the wheel, I don't
know. But those fenders sure do look nice on that silver QB. Looking

I believe the Roadini has 130 mm rear spacing vs most (all?) other Rivs
have 135, if that matters.

My wife definitely noticed a performance improvement going from Big Bens to
Naches Pass' even with standard casing. (And she flatted less!). I
personally wouldn't want to ride any wider than "1.8" if the bike is seeing
mostly road though. Nothing about wide tires feels fast when you're mashing
Thanks Scott, I was thinking of something like that. I may use an old tube
under bar tape as I like the look I have now. I can always try cork later.

Hi Joel, I just tape near the front of the grip where the twine goes. The
grip with a shifter cable won’t move much.

Excellent question.
Back in '95 or '96 I was riding off road at Los Trancos OSP and at the
crossing of a dry creek the front wheel apparently perfectly matched the
creek bed. The wheel stopped rolling, and momentum kept me going. The force
of the crash bent the original Moustache bars on the

"I crashed it once" might be a problem for potential buyers. Perhaps you can

Sugino GP 110 26/38/50 170mm cranks (original cranks, not original rings)
Whatever 8 speed chain my LBS carries

Replace the RD with an Ultegra RD 6500
I had a 53cm Roadini, 25 lbs. with a basic non-superlight wheelset sounds about

Thanks, Jason. I know that the immensely big Big Ones on the Matthews dirt
road bike seem to roll fully as easily as the Elk Passes -- the BOs have no
tubes, the EPs have light ones. For road use, I have no particular need or
desire for tires fatter than about 32 (the EPs are labeled 32 but
