Andy, yes, this is the hard stuff! It’s freeing knowing I could ride at
any time and not worry about lighting. In college I had bottle- on-wheel
generator system. Talk about drag! Still, I always had working light.
Peter White and Analog come thru with their “legendary” customer service.
Lovely bike builds and information.
I ordered all black tires but I really like the tan sidewall look that
seems to be the preference. It’s a lighter look Hopefully my fenders will
help and I think they will because Leah’s doesn’t look “heavy.”
Nathan-I’ll be getting mine in 5 weeks also.
If the Wild Flour is closed you can try the relatively newly opened Valley

great outdoor seating for bikers.

Yes, first Riv. I’ve been riding my bikes in “The Riv Way” for many years. I
was calling to order a Joe A in 2019 when Will talked me into the (then
unnamed) Platy. I’ll post photos when it’s built!

Yikes! I didn't realize we'd ever had an unpleasant exchange of which you
needed to be wary. Are you sure you're not getting me confused with
someone else? In any case, yes I thought the bike would have to go back to
the shop for mounting of the headset bracket and moving the wiring,
George, if I’ve had an unpleasant exchange with someone I tend to be wary.
Thanks for clarifying that you’re asking in good faith. Yes, the bike will go
back to the shop. I’m hardly a light-mounting and wiring expert. Even if I did
have a nice long talk with the great Peter White this morning.

I ask because I'm "Curious George!" Since Peter spec'd a headset mount,
that means taking off the bars/stem, unscrewing the headset lock nut, and
installing the mount in place of a spacer. Then, the process is reversed,

I believe it's a taller mount in the same spot at the hole in the fork.
Which would be simple enough to do at home by itself, but the headlight
needs to be mounted and wired up at the LBS, too.

Yes, Bones, great bike and tell us how your wife reacted when you surprised her
with it.
Tom - this is your first Rivendell, yes? How soon can you build it and tell us
all about it?
I love this thread. It makes me happy every single day.

Congrats Bones and Tom! So happy the Platys are starting to arrive, and I
can't wait to see more photos of builds.
Bones, I really like the tanwall tires with the lime-olive color (I have
them too). The colors really complement each other in a nice earthy way, to
my eye.

It’s time for a finale to this saga. I know more about dynamo systems now than
I did before, and that’s worth something. Thanks to everyone (especially Peter

The table confirms my experience with the Shimano BB's I bought. The 68mm
BB shell width ones with a spindle width of 107, 109 and 111 all have the
same length spindle exposed on the right side (20.5mm) with the length of
the left side spindle receiving the added length from 18.5 to 20.5 to
This may be too many hoops to jump through, but last I checked with Riv,
they had a Saluki headbadge and decals they were willing to sell me if I
ever got my frame repainted. Since it's the same bike, it's not like it's
cheating, you'd have as much of a genuine Saluki as any of the others.
I'm interested in purchasing an Atlantis frame or bike, 59cm or (old) 61cm
model.

i bought two bb's from tange recently of different spindle length. in this
case, the added length *was* shared on L and R sides.

Those are really great looking bikes.
As much as I don’t need one, I could justify buying one and eventually
giving it to my niece.
The mermaid is beautiful but that lime-olive would be my choice.

I did not love the hood shape of the TRPs--that can be pretty
personal--though I would second or third the thoughts on the quality. The
quick release is really nice and the lever feel is good and springy. The
hoods also have a softer feel than some. They may pair better with the

I run this setup on my bikes and will work if your setup is as outlined by
philipr. I use friction shiting also and it works fine with 11 speed.
I run friction shifting out of mere convenience as it's plug and play and
just easier to maintain, but it has definitely worked fine for me with an

You're not going to hurt the frame by doing it twice, when my non-prep

Platy arrived via UPS yesterday! I plan to move 80% of the parts from
