[RBW] WTB-ISO: Nitto Technomic Deluxe 9 cm

2022-03-18 Thread Mike Godwin
Hi folks

Pardon for the cross-post to the ibob list too. Here I am again, looking
for 9 cm Technomic Deluxe. Probably the same one I sold to one of you! The
continuous transfer of goods between ibobs and ROBs.

Thanks

Mike SLO CA

[RBW] ISO: Riv 50/52 Step Through (Platypus, Clem L, Cheviot)

2022-03-18 Thread Johnny Alien
I was planning on taking a shot at a Rosco Platy but now it sounds like
they are pushed until May. It's still a solid plan and I will wait if need
be but I am going to throw out a feeler as well. Would prefer just a frame
as I have all of the parts but could be fine with getting one more complete
if its the right thing. I would need a 50 Platy or Cheviot (they came in
the same sizes right?) or a 52 Clem L. I need something with V brakes so I
think those are the only step throughs that use them.

[RBW] Re: Flat Pedal Users: Favorite size/shape?

2022-03-18 Thread John Bokman
Yeah, they are pricey. Much more than a little marine grease, which is what
I used to slather on the spindles of my VP Vice today. Turns out, when I
look at all the pedals out there, mine are hard to beat, considering they
are every day "just ride" pedals. About 100x100 square, not too heavy,
plenty grippy, nice and thin, spin well enough (although admittedly not
smooth), and inexpensive. I think I paid $45 for them many years ago. I
can't really complain; they have been a good value, all considered.

(Thanks to Garth for reminding me to just throw some grease in them again.)

 1. Metal pedal body, not composite.
 2. Rebuildable pedal (can rebuild parts be had?).
 3. At least as long as the Vice (106mm, I think).
 4. At least 100mm wide.

That's a nice bike and build. The Saluki is one of my favorite bikes, if
not *the* favorite. Congrats on the acquisition.

Man those are pricey but I love that they are about the same weight as
composite pedals, they look great and are made in America. I am going to
give those a shot sometime soon.

Hello Riv-ster / BOB-ber crossover community.

Clearing a hook and a small parts hoard. An extremely good looking Klein
Pinnacle and a grip of a certain XT era. Here are some links to Craigslist
ads with tons of photos:

LIL' KLEIN PINNACLE

and

XT PARTS

Prices don't include shipping. I'd like to get $650 for the Klein. Not
really open to offers on the XT stuff unless you wanted to buy a bunch
of/most of it. If you go poking around you'll see I've got some other
assorted bits for sale that I'd be happy to sell ya if you were buying the
Klein or some XT stuff but don't really wanna make a billion trips to the
post office. I don't know.

Holler at me here or text (number below) if ya have any questions. Thanks
for lookin' and happy springtime, bike people!

Re: [RBW] Where in the world has your Riv been?

2022-03-18 Thread John Rinker
A Rambuilette comes home, and that Homer on its Odyssey in Greece seems
just as fitting! I hitchhiked around Greece many years ago and, while it
was a blast, I'm sure on a Riv it would have been a sublimely wonderful
experience.

John G, I dare say, that your travels in the East may very well win the
most miles-ridden award. And Doug, I've camped at Dismal Nitch, which I
believe is second in name only to 'Dildo Run Provincial Park' in
Newfoundland.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers, John

Re: [RBW] Re: Dealing with wind

2022-03-18 Thread brendonoid
Nick,
As a lifetime resident of Perth, I can attest to the wind issue. For me I
have always been lucky geographically to commute with the prevailing winds
at my back a good part of the year. I know friends not so lucky who were
quick to adopt e-bikes for this reason.
One of the reasons I became such a fan of riding out bush here is that the
trees provide a wonderful barrier from the ever-present wind.
