Luke thank you for the bike complement!

Today I was driving back from Santa Cruz and saw a group of cyclists that
appeared to be heading back from camping on Hwy 1 near Half Moon Bay. One
of the people in the group was riding an Atlantis with rainbow top tube.
Was it you by chance?

I'm always happy when I see others enjoying their Rivs in the wild,

Re: [RBW] Ride(s) Report: Sky Islands East and White Rim Canyonlands

2023-05-07 Thread John Rinker
Thank you Patrick! The Oracle Ridge tires roll very smoothly on pavement.
Jan H says something about the knobs being hyperorganically, ergonomically
placed or somesuch, and there does seem to be something to this. Or else,
it's confirmation bias. But really, I do have a pair of Snoqualamie Pass
tires on another set of wheels and both seem to roll very well on pavement.
The OR were very fine tires for desert riding indeed!

[RBW] Re: Dynamo Wiring inside the Fork and Frame?

2023-05-07 Thread Jeffrey Arita
Matthew,

Thank you for your post and your successful update. This inspired me to
try.

I have been successful for two different forks - one a modern Soma road
bike fork and the other a mid-90's Trek Multitrack fork. Used a bright
yellow insulated 22 ga. stranded wire to fish with. Was able to use a
combo of a single wire strand from a discarded brake cable to 'hook' the
wire out of the second hole or a very fine set of tweezers to grab it.
Yes, lots of patience and pushing and pulling to see where that darn wire
was.

I used (new) B double strand wire for the connections. Removed about 1"
of insulation from the B and removed about 1.5" of insulation from the
yellow fish wire. Twisted the stranded wires together to form a good
decent bond. *Gently *pushed and pulled the assembly through. Lots of
patience.

*Note: Like you I physically removed both forks from the bikes - yes lots
of disassembly and time! Mounted each fork in a vise for stability and a
powerful flashlight. Was it worth it? I think so.*

Best regards,

Jeff

[RBW] ISO/WTT/WTB: 90 mm +25* 31.8mm 4-bolt clamp 1.25" threadless stem; 30* might work too.

2023-05-07 Thread Patrick Moore
I'd prefer black. Again, 31.8 mm clamp, 4-bolt, 90 mm, 25* rise.

The current +17* 90 mm stem puts the very short reach Hover bar only
slightly too far forward, but (per Jim's stem comparo tool) a 90 mm with
more rise -- prefer 25* -- would bring the bar in by 8 mm and put it 1 cm
higher; a 30* would put it 14 mm closer and 15 mm higher which might be a
wee bit too much.

I don't need anything exotic, but I would like something black and not too
badly scratched.

Have various things to trade as well as cash.

Thanks.
