[RBW] Want to buy Paul Levers (and a few other things)

2024-02-23 Thread luckyturnip
Hi all,
I am working on building my S/O a fancified late 70’s step thru Raleigh Sprite.
It will be the first time I build my own wheels.
Anyhow unrelated to the wheels I am looking to buy a used pair of Silver Paul
Love Levers.
If anyone is selling those please message me off list with price shipped to
Sacramento.
If you’re wondering what else I am looking for the big thing is a Sturmey
Archer S-RF3 hub and thumbshifter (120 old/32h). I waited too long to buy this
and Handsome Cycles store appears to be closed.
Due to the weird scams I have seen happening on this list please know that I
will look for verification of your existence in our correspondence, and I will
expect to pay you with Goods/Services for both our protection unless we meet in
person.

Thanks,
Liz in Sacramento (unwilling to remove the Love Levers from my Atlantis)

Re: [RBW] Re: Gus /Susie bottom bracket -which one?

@Richard -

Thank-you.

Yes, I know that I do not have as many miles on my Clem's BB as you did,
since the bicycle was from the 2023 production and a "Demo-bike" at RBW
headquarters. I am just concerned about how my BB feels upon pulliing it
off here in the near future. I want a smooth running drive train.

Kim, I do have it & will dig it up tomorrow. By the way, my Shimano bb felt

“notchy”, almost indexed. I had put almost 7,000 miles on it so figured now
was the time. The new one is really smooth.

Thanks Regi. The BB I have on the Gus does work fine. I recently replaced
the Shimano BB on my Clem (it felt very stiff) after 7,000 miles of service
with a Stronglight unit from Peter White. I was shocked how much smother it
is. This got me thinking about replacing the same Shimano unit on my Gus
that only has about 1,600 miles use. One of the IRD higher end units
(UN-95?) came up for sale here in the proper spindle width (122.5) that
caught my eye. It is a 68mm unit but those conversion cups would take care
of that. However I am still confused by the Riv suggestion that you need a
bb with the driveside spacer or offset spindle. As in, is it sufficient to
get a bb with a 122-123 spindle or does it have to be offset. I am guessing
this all has to do with chainline & chainring clearance particularly with
wider tires?

Does the current spindle length work and fit for your use? Do both the arms
and chainring clear sufficiently? Are you changing cranks?

I know that on my SunTour cranks with 110/74 BCD and 175mm length I think
they specify possibly a 125 or 127mm spindle, but 122.5mm spindles have fit
fine on my bikes. Only bike using 127mm is the Schwinn High Plains
Aluminum.

Confidence-building off road, mainly rail trails. I have it set up

Nitto rear rack and a Rivendell HAR front rack. Two to four Ortlieb

I love this bike as a dedicated tourer but often pull the rear rack

 for
"stretching out" on longer days in the saddle.
I'm outfitted with 35mm tires because of the VO fenders, which I

Re: [RBW] Re: Also ISO/WTT/WTB Shimano type 10 sp cassette with 14 small cog and 25, 26, 27, 28 big cog

2024-02-23 Thread Patrick Moore
I just ordered 3 of the Tiagras at $32.99; Peter has 3 left so here's you
chance! Note: he also has 9 (and10?) sp Ultegra and 10 sp (??) DA 14-25s
but for a lot more money.

Apparently the advantage of the Tiagras is that Shimano doesn't bother with
a spider so yes, you can drill them out and replace the spacers with 10
speed ones.

I'll order the spacers and a Miche 28 from the LBS who are building the
wheel; also have XT hub from Universal and a SP from a private source
on-way.

Thanks all.

[RBW] FS - Phil Hub, TA Crank, Shimano R400 Levers, DA 9s Cassette, Nitto Pearl Stem

2024-02-23 Thread Huston

Greetings. For your consideration: a varied lot of parts/accessories that
should appeal to the group.

1) Shimano BL-R400 brake levers (Tiagra/Sora) – Levers and hoods are in
excellent condition. No cables or housing. $35.00.

 2) Dia-Compe (Gran Compe) Ene Ciclo roller cable hanger. This is the
pulley version. New in packaging. These are tough to find. $25.00 each
or $40.00 for the pair.

 3) Shimano Dura Ace CS-7700 9 speed 12-25 cassette. Cogs are
12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25. Includes spacers and lockring. $35.00.

4) Nitto Pearl 11 (NP) quill stem - 26.0mm. Older version of the Pearl.
There are some light markings below the minimum insertion line. $50.00.

5) Shimano 105 (RD-5500) 9 speed long cage rear derailleur. Very good
condition. $50.00.

6) Phil Wood rear hub. Not sure if this is the exact version that
Rivendell used to sell, but it's 130mm and threaded for a freewheel. Laced
and ridden but still in excellent condition. $150.00.

7) TA Specialites Zephyr triple crank arms. 175mm. You can run either a
110/74 or a 110/56 BCD. A 74 inner will let you run down to a 24 tooth
chainring while the 56 inner will let you run a 22 or 20 tooth chainring. I
have the dust caps somewhere and will include them. Light markings. The
drive side extractor threads are not the best, but I gently worked them
with the puller tool and managed to get the arm off the spindle. $200.00.

Pictures are available here
.

Payment via PayPal. Prices do not include shipping via UPS. Please send
a PM if you are interested or have questions. I will update list as items
move.

Thanks for looking!

side-mount plastic cages. [I've got some even nicer ss insulated bottles
with better-made full-cover lids but alas those are too *narrow* and rattle
in Irises even with many wrappings of electrician's tape. But those do work

think I got them on Am*z*n.]

2024-02-23 Thread Bill Lindsay
I run an Ultegra 14-25 on Bambi and have one spare also Ultegra, in the
box. I bought a spare because I perceived them as having gone out of
production. Because of your post I went to eBay to find a nice used one.
I found one listed for $29 or best offer. I offered $25 and it was
accepted. So now I'll have a new 14-25, a new spare as well as a used
spare.

[RBW] PSA: REI "Microlite" insulated stainless steel water bottles with full cover over spout

2024-02-23 Thread Patrick Moore
It's hard to find water bottles with lids that cover the entire drinking
area but this is one and it's a particularly nice on. And it's on sale.

The only defect is that the locking mech is all plastic, but mine have held
up well for 5+ years. It does keep beverages hot for a few hours in cold
temps, at least in the ~30 to 40 degree range.

https://www.rei.com/product/232074/gsi-outdoors-microlite-720-flip-vacuum-water-bottle-24-fl-oz

BTW, if anyone knows where to find regular uninsulated plastic waterbottles
with the full-cover flip-up lid, please let me know. They used to be quite
common but I've not been able to find any recently and I'm down to my last
one. I use these in warmer weather.

2024-02-23 Thread Patrick Moore
I see that PJ White has Ultegra14-25 10 speed cassettes but they're $120.
For that price I'll try getting Miche cogs to order plus spacers. He also
sells a 9 speed Tiagra for $32 [14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23-25].

That might work with the addition of a 28. Am I right in assuming that with
such close-ratio cassettes all the cogs are hub-mounted instead of
spider-mounted?

Can anyone say how well Tiagra cogs wear compared to higher-end ones?

PJW sells the same 9 sp cassette [14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23-25] in the
Ultegra flavor, but it's $100: what do you get for the additional $68? More
mileage?

Thanks.

Patrick,

Like you, I’m also a fan of Miche cassettes because of the ability to
customize their gear ratios with all 10 cogs being loose. They make a good
product, and I also look for a high gear of no less than 14 teeth.

Re: [RBW] Re: Gus /Susie bottom bracket -which one?

2024-02-23 Thread Richard Rose
Thanks Regi. The BB I have on the Gus does work fine. I recently replaced the Shimano BB on my Clem (it felt very stiff) after 7,000 miles of service with a Stronglight unit from Peter White. I was shocked how much smother it is. This got me thinking about replacing the same Shimano unit on my Gus that only has about 1,600 miles use. One of the IRD higher end units (UN-95?) came up for sale here in the proper spindle width (122.5) that caught my eye. It is a 68mm unit but those conversion cups would take care of that. However I am still confused by the Riv suggestion that you need a bb with the driveside spacer or offset spindle. As in, is it sufficient to get a bb with a 122-123 spindle or does it have to be offset. I am guessing this all has to do with chainline & chainring clearance particularly with wider tires?Sent from my iPhoneOn Feb 22, 2024, at 11:42 PM, R. Alexis wrote:Looking at IRD website the IRD Quad has a 73mm conversion cups and a conversion washer to change the 68 to a 73. Bottom brackets without a shoulder can be mounted to work with both 68 and 73mm bottom brackets. The bottom bracket would fit further in the shell. I did this with a TruVativ  Powerspline bottom bracket. Had the shoulder machined off the 68mm driver side to fit further in the 73mm bottom bracket. The person that took it to have it machined didn't know to leave the tool mounting splines. I ended up putting spanner pins in to install. Does the current spindle length work and fit for your use? Do both the arms and chainring clear sufficiently? Are you changing cranks? I know that on my SunTour cranks with 110/74 BCD and 175mm length I think they specify possibly a 125 or 127mm spindle, but 122.5mm spindles have fit fine on my bikes. Only bike using 127mm is the Schwinn High Plains Aluminum. Thanks,Reginald AlexisOn Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 3:20:18 PM UTC-6 rmro...@gmail.com wrote:Well, now I feel stupid. So to all those inquisitives asking repeatedly WHY ?.I tip my hat to you in gratitude Y-Not ! I can't give you a specific answer about your crank/bb as much as I may wish to as I'm not a mind reader seeing things as they do. I have a stock of various length cartridges on hand and a bag of various spacers and I play around with the combo that suits where I want the crank to be in relation to the frame. Why ? :-) Because someone can "recommend" a certain setup and it be perfect from their perspective. That may or may not apply to anyone else though. It's no different that a mfr. spec'ing a certain spindle or chainline. It's proper from their perspective setting up, but doesn't apply to all the various possibilities otherwise. It is what it is let it go and do what you gotta do.. always with a smile . And they suggest which 68mm IRD one to get for your Gus/Susie - 123 width with right side spacer(?). Am I to conclude that 68mm bottom brackets work on a 73mm shell? An Tange bb has become available that is a 68mm with a 122.5 spindle. Will it work on my Gus. What about the drive side spacer? Please excuse my ignorance. I would like to upgrade my bottom bracket and really have no idea what will fit best. I gather a lot of different spindle lengths will work but not ideally?
