[RBW] Re: Fattest Tire on a QB?

2021-04-02 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
Ive also run BG Rock n Roads on my Simpleone with plenty of clearance.
Really the only limiting factor are my Paul mini Vs. One thing to take into
account is I believe the tire clearance gradually increased on different
batches of the QB and the SO had the most clearance yet.

[RBW] WTB quickbeam or simple one

[RBW] Creaking + Nitto Noodle stem compatibility

2019-09-14 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
Creakiness with my noodles has been solved by a couple drops of lube around the
sleeve of the bars. This has been a reliable fix for several months running.
Sorry I don’t have further info about nitto stem/bar compatibility.

I second this solution for sleeved handlebars. Quieted my creaky noodles a few

if it starts creaking down the road.

[RBW] PSA: 56cm SimpleOne Complete on Ebay

2019-03-01 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
I have and love a 56cm SO. It is odd that they rarely come up for sale, but my
estimation has always been that they are less sought after than quickbeams. I
love my SO, but I’m always a little envious of the QB name. I think that’s what
makes these bikes less sought after/valuable. $1500 seems way too high for that
build for sure.

[RBW] Single speed handlebar recommendations

I love albastache bars on my SO. Perfect for a ss all rounder setup. Wide
enough for good leverage when climbing out of the saddle, comfy, but still
gives you flexibility to get a little lower when you’re working harder. Highly
recommended. Running 100mm technomic. Not sure the height, but bars are at or
just above saddle height.

[RBW] Question about running fenders on a SimpleOne or Quickbeam

2016-09-30 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
I have fenders on my Simpleone. I'm able to remove/reinstall the wheel while
the tire is not inflated. It just squeezes past the fender when I need to fix a
flap, which is really the only time I remove the wheel. I've been running this
set up with a pretty decent, traditional fender arch for the past several years
with no issues.

I have jones bend bars on my mtb and really like them. Would definitely
consider them for an all rounder setup. And the bend bars are cheaper than loop

narrower alternative to the jones and it comes in a quill stem friendly clamp

Re: [RBW] Next Bomba Tire

2015-09-02 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
Joe,
No fenders with the burts. There's decent clearance, but I wouldn't say enough
to safely run fenders over the knobby tires. I think switchbacks plus fenders
would be the ticket for the best all around set up. Hopefully I'll end up with
that set up eventually. In the meantime if fall starts to get wet I may throw
on a clip on fender just to keep from ruining my shorts. Plus I've got full
fenders on my simpleone.

Plus one on the thunder burt recommendation. Love em. Replaced compass babyshoe
pass on my elephant NFE and the difference in speed is hardly noticeable, but
the improvement in comfort over bumps is distinct. Compared with compass at
least I've found them to be quite long wearing all the things considered. All
that being said once these wear out I may make the change to compass switchback
hills. Doing my best not to buy new bike things unless it's replacing something
that's worn out.

2015-08-24 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
My mistake, I do have p50s in both longboard and original. The longboards are
longer than the original. My understanding is that the p55s are shorter than
the p50s because they are designed to also work with 26 tires. So I believe
the p55 longboards would be longer than the original p55s, but shorter than the
p50 longboards.

[RBW] Re: Need advice for avoiding embarrassing Brooks saddle stain...

2015-07-29 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
I've also had a few stains as mark describes. Almost like bleach spots from
the copper rivets in a semicircle. Thought it was a kind of funny sign of how
much I ride in certain shorts.

Another interesting note from my experience, I have had a couple black brooks
saddles that left marks after most rides in light pants. A few years ago I got
a b17 select, which I have to say is a fantastic quality saddle. The undyed
leather was supposed to prevent saddle stains and it did for a while, but over
years of use its almost as dark as the brown brookses and will now leave stains
on my light colored pants. Just from all the sweat and grime that's been rubbed
into the saddle over the years. I've found riding with a saddle cover to be
just fine in most circumstances. The only real difference I've noticed is its a
little more difficult to slide around on the saddle, which is one of my
favorite things about a brooks.

2015-07-14 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
Greetings all,
I've got a few nice bags I need to clear out.

First up I've got a ~year old medium saddlesack in tan. Used for commuting,
grocery shopping. Shows normal signs of wear. The only functional issue is one
snaps on one of the closure straps came out. Riv sells the straps separately if
you want to replace it. I'm sure it could be repaired at home as well.
Asking $160 shipped.

Next I've got an almost new condition acorn rando bag for sale. This is the
standard, not tall, size in tan. Used for about a month. Has not had a decaleur
installed.
Asking $180 shipped.

Finally I've got a topo designs klettersack 22l backpack in olive green I'm
hoping to sell. Used a handful of times, but in very good shape with few signs
of wear.
Asking $120 shipped.

All bags will ship ups ground from Austin, Texas. I prefer payment via PayPal.

You can find photos on my Flickr here:

I absolutely love my first batch NFE. The tubing is perfect for my weight,
uses, and riding style. The fork is more supple than my previous rawland rsogn
and my simpleone, but all things aren't equal so it's pretty hard to say with
certainty. As I understand it, it's possible to make a supple disc fork, but
very difficult in a production setting. Glen had special mounts machined
locally to keep the fork as compliant as possible. All I really know is that
the bike rides wonderfully and was a killer value for a domestically made
frame. Highly recommend.

[RBW] SKS LongBoard Question

Greetings all,
I'm looking to pick up new fenders for compass babyshoe passes and want to
go with plastic fenders. I have SKS p50s on my Simpleone and they work well
enough, but are the old style, not Longboard. According to Riv all of their
SKS fenders are now longboard style with mudflaps and longer length, but
I'm wondering if that means they're all the same length. In particular if
the p55s are the same overall length as the p50. I'd prefer the extra width
of the p55, but I definitely want the extra length. Any info would be great!

[RBW] Flats and Hetres

2014-11-15 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
I can't compare hetres to narrower tires, but my ~40mm marathon supremes have
had less flats in three years than my hetres have in six months. The ride is
nicer though, but not enough to switch my simpleone to Barlow passes.

[RBW] Cambium texture question for Cambiumists

2014-09-13 Thread 'Hudson Doerge' via RBW Owners Bunch
I have a cambium on my crossish bike and enjoy it over all. Not quite as comfy
as my b17s, but very nice. It definitely is harder slide around on due to the
texture. Especially when riding in regular shorts, haven't really ridden with
it in cycling shorts.

I, like Jim, also go to the peddler. I also know of a few other riv owners in
Austin that have had work done there. Also, east side pedal pushers is a good
option. It's a small shop focused more on commuters and used bits, but I've
spoken with one of the owners and he's read grant's writing for quite a long
time.

I ride in chacos almost all the time and love them. I will attest to the
thickness issue though, it's always annoying when I choose to ride in flip

to find the perfect closed toe shoes to ride in.
