I didn't even bother trying to drill out the holes. I just screwed the
little spikes into the holes with a sturdy hex wrench, letting them
self-tap their way in. Seems to work reasonably well. I've a one or two
fall out in the ensuing months but if you're putting 4-8 spikes per pedal
side,
I have a new, never been used Carradice Bike Bureau bag to sell, still in
original packaging. I bought it go on my Atlantis, but it turned out to be
larger than I needed for my commute. If you have a laptop and some files
and papers, and a kindle, and a book, and an extra shirt, etc, it may be
Quick tip...if your Klean Kanteens rattle in your bottle holders, wrap the
bottles with cloth handlebar tape. Lots of colors to choose from; they look
classy; and rattling is a thing of the past. If you're really feeling
crafty, you can shellac them as well, but that's overkill for me. When the
At close to 44 in age, I too have grown less enamored of drop bars. I still
have them on one old Motobecane, but I hardly ride it. When I tried
mustaches, I was never terribly comfortable. Short distances and around
town were fine, but anything longer and my wrists started getting numb. I

For #4, I know you say you've tried Carradice, but have you tried the

Hudson Urban Bicycles (HUB Bikes) on Charles Street in the West Village
downtown has a reasonable collection of used bicycles for sale. They
specialize in city bikes and are probably the most Riv-ish shop in
Manhattan. I can't speak to their prices. It's the West Village so prices
are probably
Just to add a few more photos for reference, here are some shots of the
narrower regular Bosco bars on my Atlantis.

I just installed them on my Atlantis. I did find I had to crank the clamp
down a lot harder than with other bars or else they slipped if I put too
much weight on the end. It seems to be holding for the moment in my 26mm

I'm a big fan of this Jandd bag:

I just carry my MB 13 in it loose, though I may be courting disaster.
The bag has plenty of room to put one of those soft sleeves on the
laptop as protection.
It comes with a yellow rain cover attached which is a
I'm with you on feeling too far forward. I started with the moustaches
on my Atlantis. Hated them at first and traded them for some drop
bars. Never quite got the drops set right either though with my seat
and ultimately ended up going back to a moustache (I had of course
sold the originals so I

Brad, are you sure it wasn't an Atlantis outside the DMV? (Not that
I'd accuse any of us of mis-identifying a Riv.)
I had mine locked up there about two weeks ago when I was renewing my

I'm an Atlantis owner and I grew up in Delaware and still bring my
steed back to ride sometimes when I visit my parents so you might
(very) occasionally see me in the Wilmington/Greenville/PA area.
You're not completely alone there.

It tends to be in October or early November, though I think they've
done a spring one occasionally too. It's organized by a guy named Tom

As another NYC resident and an Riv owner, I will say that I think
there is a quiet minority of Rivendellians here in the city. I ride
my Atlantis with mustache bars around town a fair amount, and have had
the bike recognized as well as seen a smattering of others. One fellow

those of us who can't go can fantasize about it, at least.

It's definitely a lovely little trail. Not super long (only 6 miles or
so) but a very nice ride through some very scenic rural agricultural
countryside. Best in Spring or Fall. It gets a little hot and humid in
the summer. I've been going to Rehoboth Beach for decades with my
family and it was a
Hudson Urban Bikes might be more Riv-ish than Bike Habitat - or a
least more commuter and cargo bike oriented.
But BH is a pretty decent place. I took a 6 week bicycle mechanics
class at Bike Habitat that was very educational. And whenever I stop
by there with my Atlantis with moustache bars,
Not a lot of Riv-ish type shops in NYC, unfortunately. Lots of shops,
most of them catering to either the newly emerging class of commuter
cyclists or else the spandex crowd.
HUB Bikes on Charles Street in the West Village stocks lots of used
bikes and has an interesting selection of Dutch

I’m finishing up my winter project of converting my Atlantis back to
moustache bars for around town riding and streamlining my early '70's
Motobecane Grand Jubilee for fun day rides. In the process it was time
to clean out the parts box. If prices seem off the mark, make me an

Probably. But the Sunrace shifters also FEEL really cheap, as well as
not costing much. They probably are reliable and functional and
everything Rivbike says, but they don't feel particularly nice when
I've used them. So I can kind of see the appeal of the Silver/Paul
combo for some people.
There's a very simple, bicycle-related solution for Klean Kanteens...
I've found that one roll of cloth handlebar tape just about covers one
of the larger 27oz Klean Kanteens very nicely, by just overlapping the
tape a little bit. The KK then fits perfectly into any of the metal
bottle cages
Haven't tried the Bobike, but as a big guy with only drop bar bikes on
my Atlantis and other frames, I could never imagine that I'd be
comfortable with my kid front and center. Felt like it would get in
the way of my knees and arms. I used a CoPilot Limo which mounts on a
back rack for a while.
