Re: [RBW] Re: Advice for selling a Saluki/Hilsen?

2017-08-10 Thread Patrick Moore
One point to take into account is, be prepared to list, find no takers, and
remove and wait, and list again. I've seen the same bikes and parts snapped
up right away at good prices, at other times linger for weeks with no
takers.

I listed a middle sized Sam frameset, with added braze ons, for weeks,
until I finally asked my brother, then in CA, to build it and sell it
there, for a cut. I did sell a 3d hand Ram frameset reasonably quickly; and
I've sold many other frames and bikes on list and off. Again, if you want
to sell it right away, be prepared to sell cheap. If you want a better
price, be prepared to wait.

That's a nice looking bike, btw, and I daresay it will sell, at a decent
price -- eventually.

The paint is probably from D near RBW. He usually does the custom colors on
Riv production frames, and is insanely good at it. I'm sure folks who charge a
lot more for custom paint want to strangle him ;-)

I sold my dad's Saluki a few years ago, it was somewhere in the 57-58cm
size range. It was used but nice and built up in a not particularly
Riv'ish manner. It sold quickly at $1400 IIRC, I probably could have
gotten at least a bit more but I didn't want the sale to take forever.

Joe: I can run it with drop bars and I'm almost 5'4". Of course, I have a
fairly short stem on it too. I have proportions more like a guy though...
meaning even though I'm not horribly tall, I have shorter legs and a longer
torso. I decided to put the albatross on it because I was using it more
for transportation around town. I will definitely take measurements of the
bike before it gets posted.

Doug: I don't think it was a Joe Bell paint job (pretty sure), but I'll
double check for the sticker. Thank you for that reminder!

Steve: That is awesome! Thank you for posting the geo chart.
