I go the same speed on all my bikes.

this is absolutely true - supporting yourself with your core muscles and
balancing with your arms - even pulling with your arms - puts everything
you have through the pedals. Been discussing these things with my daughter
since she is on her first drop-bar bike - and she's going FAST by nature

Albatross bars are slower than drops if same power is applied and you are in
the drops.
The aero dynamics going from brake hoods down to drops is over one mph
advantage by itself.
Of course you could mount your albas low enough and run a stem long enough to
achieve the same aerodynamics then
Note that bending at the hips more also brings into play additional
muscles; I can feel a slight increase in power, independently of aero (I

grab the hoods or ramps with bent elbows. So there are two speed benefits

Yes. I ride slower on albatross bars because I ride the bike that I have albas
when I am not in a hurry. I can go just as fast when i have to: running late
to catch my commute train, for example.

Exactly, I could ride a funny bike with huge TT bars if I just wanted to go
fast. I would rather be comfortable.

No, I think my experience is similar to Jay's, a few minutes here or there.
But I also don't ride for speed. Bob (Indianapolis)
