A tight link can be the cause of skipping issues, but I think it's unlikely given that the most common cause of tight links is the process of joining a chain by inserting or re-inserting a pin. The OP makes reference to "a second power link" being used to splice in the extra chain links, making

I mean this: put bike in stand. Pinch chain with left or off-hand thumb and forefinger at, respectively, top and bottom of top run of chain. Hold forefinger and thumb slightly askew so chain makes a very slight "S" bend, up and down, as you "backpedal" it using right hand. On Mon, Jul 23, 2018 at

I had many maddeningly frustrating experiences like this. Install new chain with chain tool; chain new, drivetrain in good condition, clean and well lubed; all in alignment. What the **&$&!!!* is the matter??? Tight link. You can't see it, and you don't notice it when you "pedal" the drivetrain

Brett- Unless you're a mega-miler, I doubt you could have worn down a Silver crankset yet. Must be something else. On Mon, Jul 23, 2018 at 10:52 AM, Brett Callahan wrote: > Hi Tim, relatively certain. The crankset is the Rivendell Silver double. I > use the big ring almost exclusively and it

I had a the exact problem and took bike to my LBS. They said that I didn’t have my cable properly affixed to Altus. He routed it “properly” and things worked well. Good luck, Erl -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. To

Hi Tim, relatively certain. The crankset is the Rivendell Silver double. I use the big ring almost exclusively and it shows some signs of wear on the teeth. The small ring goes basically unused unless I'm loaded for camping and the teeth show almost no wear. The slippage occurs whether in the

I had this problem in the past. After a long process of elimination it turned out that it was the shimano freehub on the newer xt hubs causing this issue. I replaced the freehub and it was fine for a while but then happened again. Switched hub. Problem never came back. clayton scott HBG, CA

You didn't mention the condition of the crankset. How are its teeth? Aka, are you positive that the skip is happening in the rear of the drivetrain? On Mon, Jul 23, 2018 at 10:37 AM, Brett Callahan wrote: > I'm at wit's end and would be grateful for suggestions. > > Setup: My Atlantis is

I'm at wit's end and would be grateful for suggestions. Setup: My Atlantis is running a rivish setup. 8 speed Shimano Cassette, 11-32; 8 speed SRAM chain; Shimano Altus rear derailleur; indexed 8 speed Ultegra bar ends. All parts have been previously used on other bikes I own without issue.
