Questions that are probably more idle and curious than practical, but: 1. Has anyone put 2 cogs on the S3X driver? There is room. 2. If so, what sizes, and why these? 3. I could install a 13 in addition to the 15 that is the default; this would give me: 76-57-48 and 88-66-55 Or:

Philip: never mind; looking more closely, I see that you use your right-side seatstay rack boss. Must add one of those myself, one day. Aside: My intention for this hub, lash and all, is a cheap but OCD-plagued man's way of getting gears for, say, an Eroica, that is, on the cheap and without

I might try one of these, mounted to the seat tube with the cable running directly to the pull chain -- ie, without roller or housing or housing stop. That might make the shifter a bit more accessible. It looks as if one can even remove the unused boss. But the seatstay shifter works alright.

Here are my thoughts on the S3X: http://www.biketinker.com/2011/projects/s3x-in-the-woods/ It was a fun hub, and I mounted my shifter on the seatstay, too. I ended up preferring a fixed gear, but I need a second chainring to get the uphill gear back. Philip www.biketinker.com On Saturday,

Super cool! I'm a big fan of shifters in new and strange places. Though I guess any bicycle historian would argue there are probably no new or strange places. I've been thinking that the Paul Silver Shifter adapter would be a good starting point for a mod like this because it has a fairly

I agree that for most riding it is not worth the annoying lash or the weight, and for most of my local riding I simply prefer to flip the wheel, stand and grunt, or to walk. But frankly, I arranged this setup for eventual longer rides -- the missed, this past Sunday's Santa Fe Century (I would

I briefly tried a S3X hub. I was excited about it having ridden primarily fixed gear for over a year at the time when they were available. I built it up and had the kit that came with a barend shifter. I used the shifter on a dt boss instead of barend. Took it for a spin and hated the lash. I
