The medium Sackville works well for me. I like that it has d-rings to lash more
stuff on top. But I have additional capacity up front with a Wald medium
basket, Shopsack bag and BrandV bar sack.

This by way of an aside, but I was always pleasantly surprised by how much
I could stuff into a Nelson Longflap and, even more, into a Camper Longflap
(as long as you could hold everything in place while you pulled the cinch
cord or tied the tapes, depending on your model). In the N LF I used to
I'm going to vote large. As they say there's no replacement for displacement.
I like my large. But I was actually underwhelmed by it's capacity. Part of it
is being used to messenger style backpacks and panniers. The other, I think
the board talks up the capacity a little too much.

Just a counterexample. I've got a large on my double top tube cant Sam,
and I love it. I use it for commuting every day as well as touring and
camping rides. I agree it's extremely big, but I like having the option of
filling it up and don't really see a significant downside to having more
Medium is really big. Large is extremely big.
The medium is bigger than carradice's biggest bag. I can fit sleeping bag,
tent, u-lock, multi-tool, a couple shirts and overnight toiletries in mine and
then strap the sleeping pad to the top. For me, it's too big for commuting or
general riding
I just bought a used Large and am still a little shocked at how big it is,
I have both an Adam and a Hoss and was looking for a more Adam than Hoss
sized bag. I must say it is a very nicely made bag in a very different
style than the Cartwright series. Steve

I'm trying to decide which Sackville Saddlesack would be better for my Sam.
I now have a rear rack so either would work. I plan on using it for
commuting, running errands, and the occasional S24O. I have a Mark's rack
on the front with a Wald basket for some extra carrying space. My original

I know that some of this has been covered before, but, specifically, which
is better for riding to the beach with towels, etc. - a SaddleSack Medium
or Large? Need to put in about 3 or 4 beach towels, light snacks, and some
other odds and ends. My Hilsen has a Tubus rack on all the time. I
No handling issues with the large. It goes on the rack and sits far back
from the saddle so no leg touching either.
Here's what I'll say about the large: it's the best thing I've gotten for
my bike. Ever. And it's behind me, so who cares how big it is?
But if you're looking for a reason not to
