I was expecting wetter weather than we have in August for the D2R2 (crazy randonee in Massachusetts 112 miles, 70% on dirt roads, and 11,000 ft of climbing) so I rode my Atlantis with Honjos installed and while there was a great deal of rattling they worked fine. Granted this was mainly dirt

I have Planet Bike 60s on my Big Apple shod Monocog 29er, and there is no problem except shake thanks to flimsy stays. No rattling, either, but then the Monocog has huge clearances even with 60 mm tires and fenders. I'd say you will be fine as long as you have, say, a cm between fender and tire.
