[RE-wrenches] generator surge on outback system

2010-08-12 Thread Kirk Herander, VSE
Hello, I have an off-grid customer with dual Outback inverters and a Kohler 8.5 RES generator. When the inverter automatically shuts off the generator, we see quite a surge (greater than 300 vac) in the house, before the switch to batteries takes place. This trips their arc-fault breaker and

Kirk, The problem may be related to the transfer delay. The default time is way too long. Try reducing it to 10 cycles or even less. Kent Osterberg Blue Mountain Solar Kirk Herander, VSE wrote: Hello, I have an off-grid customer with dual Outback inverters and a Kohler

I seem to remember reading about a source of custom padded equipment cases, but can't remember when and where I did so. What I am talking about is a sturdy (e.g. Al) case with closed cell foam in the top and bottom halves and then a third inner 2 or 3 layer of foam with cutouts for sensitive

Anybody know anything about these claims? SolOptics, the solar division of Genie Lens, has created a new lens design that improves solar PV performance by 12.5 percent. The new thin-film design can be applied to any PV module, just like a sticker. The new design is created by the company's ray

They claim that their film should last the 20 year lifespan of the modules. With most warranties at 25 years and modules lasting much longer than that, that claim does not do them much justice. I can't imagine modules will work very well with a tarnished or degrading film on them. Imagine how

Hey there Peter, In that I owned the largest [2-3 person] window tinting company in N.AZ almost 30 years ago, I feel qualified to enter a comment here. The bubbled film is a direct result of not enough or possibly no UV blockers in the adhesive for window films. The bubbling is a direct result

I'm not aware of anyone doing these custom molds but I would encourage you to reconsider a DIY system based on Pelican cases. These cases are super strong (lifetime warranty), float, water and dust tight and the foam is perf cut into cubes that you simply pluck out to create the cavities you

I was just at our local “Academy Sports” (big box sporting goods store) and noticed they had a great selection of Pelican brand cases plus some lower priced knock offs that appeared to be decent quality. The largest Pelican (~20” x~15” x 6”) was under $100 and had the removable squares like Jeff

Let nothing lure us away from the basics, Mechanics. There is no substance which can increase the amount of incident sunshine which falls upon the surface of a solar module. (For the moment let us assume that the anti-reflective characteristics of a major brand PV module cannot be improved upon,
