Does anyone have any updated info for BP warranty claims?

Wrenches,
I have a customer who's got a 24V off grid system with one string of 12 two
volt, 2000AH Power Battery brand flooded lead batteries. The bank is about
four years old and has been working great except the customer forgot to water
the batteries for an extended period. When I went out
Will,
The plates exposed to air will immediately sulfate. I'm not sure whether
corrective equalization charging can help dissolve this sulfate back into
solution. That probably depends how long this occurred and how hard the
sulfate crystals have become. It's probably worth a try.

That's exactly what I had proposed, but the owner is looking for a more
economical solution. We're pros at S-tile and most tile roofs around here,
but the vertical stringers on this roof present some challenges. If the
attic wasn't foamed, I'd lean toward a tile hook with blocking where
necessary.
Hi Mac,
Everything is different again. I just did a claim, and things seemed to
work for the client quite well (full replacement). BP is having the owner
call 800 891-2163 to start a claim. In Colorado the claim went to a 3rd
party installer that is handling all the claims. They came out,
You do not provide the length of time the plates were exposed so any response
is a guess. The result of plate exposure to oxygen is hardening of the
amorphous lead sulfate into sulphate crystals and grid corrosion.
You should just cover the plates with water then fully charge the bank. After
Jeremy,
We did a Solar Thermal project several years ago to heat feedstock oil for a
local biodiesel plant (profiled in the Apr/May 2012 issue of Home Power). The
system has worked really well We used a pressurized glycol system with a
coiled tube heat exchanger in an atmospheric tank for heat
Here's a long-shot question: Is any Wrench out there aware of a gas
slide-in oven without an electric glow bar? Occasionally (as in now)
we have an off grid client who'd prefer a separate wall oven and gas
cooktop to a standard range.
Thank you,
Allan

Wrenches,
Has anyone had experience with the Kinetico line of non-electric
water softeners?

Hi Allan,
While not a separate gas unit, Premiere makes a nice stainless steel
and black propane gas stove/oven. It's sort of a step up from the
Lehmans Catalogue old school stuff but still not what you're looking
for. I have used one at home for the last four years with good
experience
HI Allen,
Kinetico is a quality machine. Not a problem with city water pressure.
Check that your well water pressure will be satisfactory. What is
absolutely required is a good sediment prefilter to keep the little gear
train from becoming contaminated and jammed. If the gears don't spin
I've had one for over 25 years. Only serviced a couple of times. They were very expensive when I bought it, and the price has doubled. They are supposedly some of the most efficient on salt.In our case, with our extremely hard water, we use maybe 40lb/week.You do need to (or at least ought to) use

Can someone tell me what is being referred to in NEC 690.55 when it says
Photovoltaic power systems employing energy storage shall also be marked
with the maximum operating voltage, . . . ?
We have an off-grid system which employs energy storage [i.e.; batteries];

Hello Wrenches,
I got a call last week to go out and look at a DC pump that had stopped
working. probably hit by lightning in our recent spate of thunderstorms.
The pump is a Dankoff 24V ETAPump. The controller that got popped was a
more recent style of controller that uses a normal pressure

I use the MPPT voltage.

Hi Will,
Flooded (or wet cell batteries) are typically much more forgiving than a
sealed battery. Check S.G. (≈1.265 at rest) and load test.
Equalize if necessary (if .05 difference in S.G. cell-to-cell).
