August: What about the expense of servicing and/or replacing roof mounted inverters? There is a very finite limit on the weight that is practical/legal to haul up a ladder. Sure it's easy to toss an inverter on the roof at the install when there is already a lift in the budget to hoist the PV

All the European spec inverters I have used would shut down at 600V so that's not a great idea. On systems with long runs, we use a fused switched combiner and run 1KV #6 for the home runs. But that's for very long runs. You can put a lot of power over a #10 PV Wire at 800V working voltage. On We

Hi Dave, We've run all the way home with 1000 V PV wire and only made splices with Amphenol MC4-type 1000 V connectors. Going forward, we are going to strive to put inverters on the roof to minimize the expense of dealing with the 1000 V runs. Another interesting idea is to use the 1000 V inverter

Hi Wrenches- If you're installing 1000V systems, are you running continuous PV WIRE all the way to your inverters? If not-- what splices have you found (aside from MC4s and similar) that are listed for 1000V? And when transitioning from PV WIRE to a cheaper conductor, what 1000V options exist

Hi Bob; This sounds like once again Midnite is solving my problems, before I even know I have them. Can your interface work directly with the SI, or does it require the Sunny Web box, too? Also, is Midnite's Whizbang Jr. shunt sensing usable in this, or do you just defer to the SI's current s

I should have mentioned that our installation is not a metal roof either. Ours is a flat foam roof with large tilt racked arrays of SunPower modules. I've spoken with SMA tech support twice on this and got the idea that either I have a real ground fault or that there is some sort of inductance r
