Hi Jeremy,
How large a bank is your client looking for?
We have worked with Corvus Energy on some projects but the numbers have never
worked, yet, for off-grid.

Our AGM L16 has lower cycle life than the flooded. I believe the chart you
pasted was for these models. I will forward flooded Series 4000 (L16), Series

When looking at off-grid systems, in your opinion, how often is there excess
current, i.e. more amps from the PV / Charge Source than can be absorbed

Looking at Lithium Ion, like NMC, you can recharge at 2x Capacity (so 1/2 hour
Hi Dave,
We've been doing some work in this field - all of which is preliminary
at this time. By no means would I consider myself an expert but a few
things I have garnered over the past couple of years.

Hi Ray,
Just a quick chime in on your series string comment.
If you hook up 4 x 12V monoblocks for a small 48VDC system and begin charging
at 58.8V, total voltage will be 58.8V very quickly but individual battery
voltage will not be 14.7V. Battery voltage will have a large range from 14 to
Hi Wayne,
I look forward to the input from the wrenches.
My recommendation, regardless of the brand, would be for one string.

Evening all,
A quick note on DOD.
Batteries / cells are often rated at voltages above and below 1.75VPC (1.7 -
1.85 are common), so ratings should be verified with the supplier / model.
However, as anyone that has ever run a discharge test knows, the time /
available AH from 1.8 to 1.7VPC
Hi Nathan,
Your assumption was spot on.
This list contains lots of folks who have hauled and installed more
lead than I. Moreover, as the thread has revealed, the variables are
pretty dramatic by location.
I am off to write a campaign speech as this sounds like pretty good
duck cover!
Thanks Tom,
Appreciate the heads up.

Hi Todd,
Tried to post earlier from my phone but don't think it went.
Dry charge (not moist but true dry) can be stored for 5+ years easily.
The lower the humidity the better as the negatives will discharge in the
presence of air if they become wet.
One helpful option is to use cling
Hi Dana,
Sorry for the delay - been on the road. Not sure if this has already

Hi Hugh,
You are correct, my comments may have been too simplistic.
However, one other key point we are missing is discharge rate.
Note your comment, 400AH battery discharged at 10a for 16 (or 20) hours = 50%
DOD, which is probably not the case.
Use our S-530, which is 400AH @ the 20hr
sulphated and is this a
normal consequence or is it an indicator of some other malady in the batteries?

Hi Hugh,
Based on your earlier number - regardless of temp effects - you were only
removing ~25% of capacity. You will need to lower your low voltage cut off to
improve performance.
Remember, as batteries cool actual capacity is reduced, so if 200AH is 50% @
25C it is significantly more
due to temps 25C...and I know they are lower than that
here!
Hope this is of some assistance.

Hi Hugh Wrenches,
Regarding the charge voltages you sited, you've got the gist.
As battery temperature drops, you need to increase the charge
these or at least get things started.
