Don't do it! ...use a dc to dc converter to step down to each bus 12v 24v

This is a really great thread. Here’s my two cents…

Even a 5 watt module will do the task well, as long as the generator digital
regulator doesnt use more than that, and it probably doesnt. The bleed
back thru the module is insignificant in this scenario.

Hi everyone
Weve been selling this stuff for over a decade, but we learned that, when
using QuickCote
never put it between the mating surfaces, it makes a lousy
connection. It does however seal out corrosion quite well (better than
Vaseline) and if applied right should last ten years.

There were a lot of locked rotor Lorentz back in '05 to '07 they fixed the
problem and we haven't had one since. Call American West Windmill and Solar

Here’s the long story. First the bulk charge brings the bank to an 80% charging

been reached. Then, the charger will switch to the absorption timer.
The absorb mode takes care of the remaining 20% of the

Yes the problem is hard sulfation due to chronically under charging. The
absorb time and voltage is the most critical charge mode for charging
batteries. The default settings on inverters and charge controllers are
always way too short, so they hold the batteries in absorb for a little

Yes. Xantrex, Outback and Apollo, but I think Apollo is shipping as of last
week. For instance we have bought all the Xantrex, OutBack and Apollo Charge
Controllers we could find, because of the long lead times from The
Manufacturers.

On the other note: Were the L-16s in series or series/parallel? Also were
the voltage readings and Hydrometer readings done on an active bank or at
rest and what were the readings?

Over the years I have looked at the various incarnations of these devices. I
have two thoughts on this subject the first is a cheap constant current
battery charger (2Amp) left on for two weeks or more will slowly melt hard
sulfation. if that is the problem, the time it takes might not be

About 28 years ago I read a study, by either Niehoff or Prestolite, on the
pros and cons of soldering or crimping, heavy duty starter cables, for over
the road trucks.
The finding was, that a properly crimped lug made a solid (molecular)
connection while solder did not make as good a connection
