thanks Neil - and my mistake I am wanting to build one (or somethin similar to) for the 146MHz area. With that in mind of buying a used one - do they have an adjustable wide range? Or is it like the others that have the fundamental crytal with some components like a cap or inductor to fine

You didn't specify what frequency band you are thinking about. Re the 150 MHz band: Transmitter - all multiplication is external and after the modulator. Receiver - the output is three times the crystal frequency. Is usually much simpler to locate a used one - usually cheaper
