Hey all,
Is there a way a guy can build his own Micor channel
element? What is the Fout of the element- is it a
fundamental freq that is multiplied externally in the
exciter or receiver?

I am wanting to build one (or somethin similar to)
for the 146MHz area.
With that in mind of buying a used one - do they
have an adjustable wide range? Or is it like the
others that have the fundamental crytal with some
components like a cap or inductor to fine
Ok ...

I misspoke. What is the name of the utility company
in New York State that gives you the better rate?
I'm in Niagara Mohawk territory at my site. If
anyone know of a preferred rate available in their service territory for a
stand-along building with no sewer, please let me know.

Ben,
A MICOR channel element is much more than just a crystal; it is a
system, to use a fashionable noun.
In order to maintain the very close frequency tolerances required of
base stations and repeaters, Motorola started with a very high-quality
crystal that met some exacting specifications, and
You didn't specify what frequency band you are thinking about.
Re the 150 MHz band:
Transmitter - all multiplication is external and after the modulator.
Receiver - the output is three times the crystal frequency.
Is usually much simpler to locate a used one - usually cheaper

It can be. The common stuff is white, but I've seen

I can't think of anything that would prevent the

I remember buying some stuff at an auto parts store a few years back
that was clear and used for automotive distributor caps and such. I
can't remember if it was silicone based stuff or not.
I got my white stuff (heat sink compound) at the local Radio Shack...
