You can send the preamp back to ARR for about 35.00 they will rebuild
and tune to freq. Having over -137dbm for the squelch i would not
complain a bit.

45W? That's light. Another operator and myself once discussed making a
remote ba
Hi Larry,
When it comes to lightning all bets are off. All you can ever hope
to do is protect the equipment with all the proper techniques and
devices available.
No... in the specific case I mentioned the preamplifier simply
goes into normal relay bypass mode when the internal rf detection

Depends on the locaction and what's going on nearby (and at the
site). Someti

How do you build a community RX antenna system without a window
filter? Multiple cavity filters a la a "reverse combiner"? Yech!

Window filters are nice but not so useful anymore. There's always
some person/site nearby transmitting in the receive section of the
repeaters (input) band with some type of "temp link" or "remote base"
equipment. Many places got real crazy with IRLP and echo link paths.
Gets even more crazy
One very important note - it's a relatively clean site RF-wise at UHF
freqs, and I have a window filter on the front end before the preamp,
otherwise forget it with that kind of sensitivity!

I have a site where my GasFet preamp would blow every spring like
clockwork. Seems as though once lightning season started, just the
static in the air from strikes afar would take it out. After the 3rd
time, I switched to a bipolar version preamp, and have not touched it
in 7 years. Not able t
I've also started doing that exact same thing, & it is a much better way to
go!

At one location I had an ongoing problem with gasfet preamp failures.
Over time I suspected the failures were done on purpose (yeah people
do those sort of things). .
I replaced the last blown preamp with a similar spec unit that
contained internal rf bypass switching when transmit power is
