Its probably the RF amp or mixer transistor. The ER41C is a better
receiver, especially for repeaters. It has no RF amplifier, just like the M2.
The low audio sounds like the audio output transistor. It is mounted all alone
on the heatsink. The "A" model didn't have much audio to begin
