Hello All-- I have need to paint an ingraved aluminium pushbutton The engraving is of the depth and width as used on my early 390. And, ---Do I bake---and other process comments? Many thanks-I'll report my findings-- Scott, N6NXI

[Repeater-Builder] SCR-1000 crystals
Our club has 2 Spectrum SCR-1000 2-meter repeaters (one from 1988 and one from the early 90's) which apparently have different crystal specs... I am trying to find out the board revisions numbers or exact dates of manufacture, but in the meantime, does anyone have the specs for the various revisions of the TX and RX??? [Repeater-Builder] Syntor X9000 Manuals
If any reader of this list has a clean and complete hard copy of the 6880102W05 manual for the Syntor X9000 radio, please contact me off-list. I would like to borrow that manual long enough to have it scanned by a commercial graphics house into full-page format as a PDF file. I'd also like to borrow the 6880100W94 manual, which is a Syntor X9000 supplement to the Syntor X manual 6881060E05, for the same purpose. I realize that there is a copy of the supplement on the RBTIP, but it was scanned in pieces and is not as convenient to use, or as compact, as a full-page version. The 6880102W05 and 6880100W94 manuals are both NLA from Motorola. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY

Tonight on my way home I fired up my iPod to listen to a podcast by well-known and very well-spoken Steven Force Tupper, an aviation enthusiast from Michigan. What I heard chilled my heart to the bone. The TSA under the auspices of Homeland Security has floated a proposal to restrict and in my opinion, DESTROY numerous legendary aircraft, by limiting their use so heavily that you will never see them in the skies over America again. While this may sound alarmist, please trust me, it's not. You all know me, and know that I can write well, expressing my concerns with politics, living, and even the banal things of life in words, fairly well -- but I can not possibly top the writing of Mr. Tupper. Even more eloquent is his VOICE in his podcast, where he perfectly expresses the frustration, and sheer TERROR that the TSA itself has brought down on the United State's Aviation community with the proposal they've recently released, inappropriately entitled, the Large Aircraft Security Program, or LASP. For the best and most intelligent commentary I've heard on the topic to date -- PLEASE ... LISTEN to his podcast at: http://media.libsyn.com/media/airspeed/AirspeedLASP.mp3 You really must just hear... his voice. I do hope his server can handle an onslaught -- if it can't, wait, and listen later. (I fully intend to help him with the costs associated with distributing his podcast if he needs it this month, it's just that important. Steve, please let me know if you need assistance. I have worked in data centers and web-based businesses, and I understand that publishing these things online to large numbers of people, is NOT free.) It's just over 30 minutes in length, and he NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT -- even if you are NOT a pilot. He gives instructions in the podcast. If you honestly do NOT have time to listen, at least READ and RESPOND to his letter in response to the TSA's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. He needs your input by TOMORROW. The entire text of his podcast is also available at the link below, if you read faster than you listen -- so to speak. http://airspeedonline.blogspot.com/2009/02/large-aircraft-security-program- capt.html If this non-legislative rule change comes to pass, you and your family may never SEE many historical aircraft or have an opportunity to purchase a RIDE in any classic warbird aircraft in the skies over America ever again. The rule is BROAD and affects modern aircraft also, but the aircraft we will miss the most, are the ones of our history that tell our story as a country. To NOT take action and RESPOND means that you've let a small group of tireless aviation historians, restoration specialists, mechanics, pilots, and everyone who's ever watched an airshow with aircraft from the classic Warbird fleet down. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT. PLEASE read or listen. Mr. Tupper explains it far better than I possibly can. The TSA's proposal adds NO security to our nation whatsoever. It's simply government run amok. Here's a list from Mr. Tupper's website, of aircraft that I personally believe you will RARELY see in the skies of America again, if the

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Painting Question
I bet you found the same site that I did. They were selling plating/anodizing kits for $1800 and up? Seems the most expensive part was the power supply (obviously). I saw one of them for $1300. If one could find what voltages and currents are needed, I would think it wouldn't be too hard to build one. I also found a section on zinc plating that would be really handy for restoring boat anchor stuff that has become corroded over the years. Wish I could find more details on the specifics of the process. I have a GE MLS I UHF radio that needs to be programmed. I need two ham channels and CG tones programmed into it. Does anyone on here have a GE programmer who would be willing to do that for a reasonable price? If so, please email me at tallinson2 at yahoo dot com with the details. does any have a list of the service the same as FRS freg in Canada? thanks
RE: [Repeater-Builder] Painting Question
Being a ham you have the basics , dc power etc... even epoxy will flake but may be a cheaper in the short term , as for anodising I took my last lot to the local plater and had a couple of car bumpers done for a reasonable price so I will stand correction but if that service is available it should be affordable for a professional finish ? I had a whole Heathkit amp done years ago and it looked quite replenent in bright blue . Re: [Repeater-Builder] SCR-1000 crystals
Thanks to all who replied. Apparently, sometime between the manufacture dates of our 2 repeaters, Spectrum changed something in SCR200 receiver oscillator, such that the load capacitance is substantially different. We ordered crystals from ICM for the older of the 2, and whatever specs they worked from, the crystal would not warp down to freq without changing the trimmer cap value. 73, George, KA3HSW / WQGJ413 - Original Message - From: Joe k1ike_m...@snet.net To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, February 28, 2009 2:05 PM Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] SCR-1000 crystals This seems to be Spectrum day! Yep... and there are a few different varieties of oven type assemblies. They can have different load specs and even different (non standard) temp break points. If you're shooting in the dark trying to order crystals... good manufactures can take a very reasonable guess at the crystal specs if you can supply a basic osc circuit diagram. The trick is having the right diagram or drawing one up. oh joy... s.
