Re: AppleshareIP script

2001-02-05 Thread David Thornton

You can set up a script in Retrospect that will lock out
AppleShare users when a volume is being backed up; click on
Options in the Script Edit window, then on the More Choices
button, then on AppleShare. That may solve your problem; I haven't
used that feature in a while so I don't know what it does to users
who are logged in & have active files. My guess is it just kicks
them off & frees up their files. You might want to check it out
first.

Re: AppleshareIP script

2001-02-05 Thread Carl Veilleux

HI,

I'm runnig Retrospec on the server itself with no problem at all.
Except that this server is using by a group of programmers(over 30) using
Sourcesafe from CodeWarrior.
If one user is still logging in on the server, some files are not going to
be backup because they are in use.
And I can't try to tell everybody to disconnect from the server(they are
still kids ;-) ). The better solution for me is to run a script, before
retrospec, to stop the file server.
And them backup the files with retrospec and re-run another script to
restar the server.

thanks for your help.
Carl

You should be able to back up your server with Retrospect without stopping
file services. I do it all the time. Do you have Retrospect running on the
same computer as ASIP or on a different machine? Tip: Retrospect and ASIP
are both huge resource hogs and don't like to share. Even offloading
Retrospect duties to a lowly 6100 and doing your backups over the network
via Retrospect client can get rid of many problems running the two on a
single machine, and performance suffers only a little.

AppleshareIP script

2001-02-05 Thread Carl Veilleux

HI,

I'm just new to this list and maybe find my answer.
Is there anyone how have a script to turn off and on the file server of an
Appleshare IP Server.
I need to do this to backup file in use with retrospec. At this time I have
to stop the file serveur
manually to make sur that Retrospec backup all the files.

Or if anybody have other suggestions?

thanks
Carl Veilleux
