Re: Retro 4.2A Mac question

1999-12-16 Thread John C. Welch

Is this an overall OS limit, or an I/O limit? I mean, I can get some pretty
hellacious FTP rates on 100+MB files in transmit, with multiple transfers
going. The MacOS, especially with the changes in 9.0 DOES support some
pre-emptive threads, and you can, (I think) run I/O processes with this. The
OS is a lot better at multitasking than it once was, and the "Mac OS is not
a multitasking operating system so right now that is just not possible."
issue sounds like it needs revisiting.

Thanks.

Too bad, on the Mac, you can't have it as separate processes within Retro. Something
similar to being able to download via FTP from multiple sites at the same time within
the same program.

Here's to wishing.

Reply to: RE: Retro 4.2A Mac question
Ryan,

At this time Retrospect can only do one backup to one destination at a
time. The Mac OS is not a multitasking operating system so right now that is
just not possible.

Windows NT is a multitasking operating system, although Retrospect for
Windows does not have this capability at this time either. This is something
we'd like to implement in a future release.

Retro 4.2A Mac question

1999-12-16 Thread Ryan La Riviere

I haven't seen anything about this and also figure Retro can't currently do it but I
thought I'd ask anyway.

I was curious if it is possible to backup from source 1 to tape drive A while
simultaneously backing up from source 2 to tape drive B? As far as I can tell Retro
does it in a queue fashion handling only one at a time.

Thanks.
