[RDD] Getting Notices of bounces from mailing list

2022-05-06 Thread Rich Gattie
So I have been getting these messages from the mailing list that I am being
disabled because of excessive bounces.
I am using Gmail, and I checked my filters and don't see any blocking the
mailing list.

Is there anyone else on Gmail seeing this as well?

Re: [RDD] Ransonware attack

2021-12-16 Thread Rich Gattie
While this is no doubt a big headache and a ton of work for Tim, and I
empathize, this is also a very good discussion to help others avoid this.
I think this would make for a great page on the Wiki to have some of these
suggested measures available for everyone to have ready access to.

I only am wondering if it should be it's own subject/parent page or a child
page to like planning an installation.

[RDD] Back Up solutions (Slightly OT?)

2021-10-15 Thread Rich Gattie
Hello List!

I was thinking to myself, "Self! We really need to come up with a better
backup solution!"
Currently I just do a copy of /var/snd to a folder on an external drive,
and then do the SQL backup in Rivendell, copying that to another folder on
the external drive.

I know I should have something a little more robust than that. But I was
curious what would some of you recommend for something simple and automatic?
Am I better off with a shell script that does what I am doing? Or maybe one
of the many open source projects that does back ups?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [RDD] Error when setting MariaDB password on Client machine

2021-03-08 Thread Rich Gattie
If the server is where the SQL database is, then you don't need to on the
client as it's pulling the data from the server.
RDAirplay and the other applications on the client ideally, should be
connecting to the server remotely with a non root account for security
reasons. By default I believe the account rd is created with a standard
password, and has sufficient privileges to do what it needs to do to play
out and import new audio files for the carts but is not an admin/root.

[RDD] Slightly Off Topic: A request for Members of this list

2020-12-30 Thread Rich Gattie
Hello! Happy New Year to all!

I have a request for members of this mail list. There is no specific reason
for this request, other than working from home and no commute, with
weekends off, I find myself now, with some free time.
I am compiling a list, mostly from email signatures I can find in old
emails, of stations and companies using Rivendell. I have been a fan of
this software for a while, and having been mostly on air, and squeaking my
way into the graces of some of my past stations engineers, been able to get
into some of the behind the scenes stuff. So when I found RIvendell, it
gave me an outlet to explore that even more.

Again, this is only for my own use, I am very much on the side of not
sharing any personal information, which is not what I am looking for. Just
the following.

Call Letters
Parent Company Name
Location or City of License
Frequencies if more than one
Format and Website

As for what I would do with this list, probably nothing. Just gives me
something to do. For those of you who are also fellow Ham Operators, think
of it kind of like chasing DXCC or County Hunters. :D

I know this can come across as strange, and I get that. By all means, I
won't pester anyone for info. If you chose not to share, I'm cool with that
too. I do ask if you do want to share, perhaps send it to me directly as to
not flood the list with extra off topic messages.
Thanks in advance! ANd if you have questions into my "weirdness", send them
on over. I have nothing to hide. :)

Yes it does the same on the test harness too.

[RDD] WEB API not seeing group

2020-12-24 Thread Rich Gattie
Since my last email about cart and groups, I changed the cart numbers for
TRAFFIC and imported some audio. Rivendell sees it no problem.

When I use the WEB API, it doesn't see the group. I changed the carts form
having leading "0"s to 20+
The web api still returns a 404. Checking the DB with DBeaver also sees the
carts and the group associated with those carts.

With the new cart numbers and even a restart of the system, it's still not
seeing the group. What have I missed? Anything?

[RDD] Carts and Groups

2020-12-23 Thread Rich Gattie
Hello,

Hope everything is well with everyone as we get to Christmas..

While trying my hand with some python code and the web api, I have come
across an issue I am not sure how to resolve, other than something obvious
I can do, but wanted to run this by the list and see what was the technical
reason for it.

I have some carts setup in the TRAFFIC group and they are just number 1
- 7. WHen trying to list them in my code, I get an error with the
leading zeros:

 "leading zeros in decimal integer literals are not permitted; use an 0o
prefix for octal integers"

I add the '0o' and try again and get a 404. Same thing for the demo page
that comes with Rivendell, /rd-bin/listcart.html
Nothing comes up when I do a GROUP_NAME list either, saying that group
doesn't exist. I guess because of the numbering, that there is no relation
to the group in the SQL and that is why I get a 404 when I run my code.
I can see the carts in the DB using DBeaver, so they are there, and they do
play when scheduled in the logs.

Is there any way to see them with the web api other than reimporting them
into the group with different cart numbers? There is only 7 of them, so
it's not like it's a pain. But this is more for my own curiosity.

Thanks!

73, Rich.

[RDD] Carts take 5 seconds to start in Main log

2020-11-30 Thread Rich Gattie
Greetings list..

I just upgraded the machine I have been running 2.x on to the latest v3 of
Rivendell. After an annoying issue with the NIC and driver no longer in the
distro of CentOS 7, I got the machine up and running as it was before with
one small exception.

While testing the main log, (I use Aux Log 1 for a 24/7 stream), I add a
cart, hit START, then it takes about 5 seconds to start playing. Segues go
smoothly between carts, no delay.
There was no issue like this with 2.19.x, and no hardware changes have been
made to the machine.

I didn't see anything in wiki about this, so I figured I would ask the
experts!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

[RDD] rdalsaconfig not writing to /etc/asound.conf

2018-03-01 Thread Rich Gattie
So I backed up and stared fresh. But here's something I'm running into...

When I go into rdalsaconfig as sudo, I add the cards and save, it tells me

Home directory not accessable: Permission denied

It then just saves a header and footer to my /etc/asound.conf

cat /etc/asound.conf

# *** Start of Rivendell configuration generated by rdalsaconfig(1) ***

# *** End of Rivendell configuration generated by rdalsaconfig(1) ***

If I add just the basic settings, rdadmin sees the card and plays.

so

pcm.rd0 {
  type hw
  card0
}

ctl.rd0 {
  type hw
  card 0
}

I know I could add the cards myself and not even touch rdalsaconfig, but
I'm not sure what to put in asound.conf, hence why I tried with
rdalsaconfig.

Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, I did sudo rdalsaconfig, and the asound.conf file in /etc is empty..

And when it exits, it says...

Home directory /home/mobbyg not ours.

And I ran it as sudo from the /etc/ directory...

Here is aplay -l

[RDD] Still no sound from soundcard after video card swap

2018-02-28 Thread Rich Gattie
Sorry for starting another thread.. but I have been trying to figure this
out and it's driving me mad...

Swapped out a 64MB video card for a 1G video card which has HDMI, it took
over the audio. I figured out it was the HDMI and blacklisted the HDMI
driver in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:

blacklist snd_hda_intel

Now one of my 2 Soundblasters are working.

Audigy SE (CA0106) and Audigy2 (emk10k1 I think is the driver)

Anyways, I have everything enabled in rdalsaconfig, but the asound.conf
file in /etc is empty...

#Lines below here added for more than 1 soundcard uncomment as required

# *** Start of Rivendell configuration generated by rdalsaconfig(1) ***

# *** End of Rivendell configuration generated by rdalsaconfig(1) ***

But I have cards in the asound.conf in my home directory...

cat asound.conf

pcm.rd0 {

  type hw

  card 0

}

ctl.rd0 {

  type hw

  card 0

}

#Lines below here added for more than 1 soundcard uncomment as required

pcm.rd1 {

  type hw

  card 1

}

ctl.rd1 {

  type hw

  card 1

}

pcm.rd2 {

  type hw

  card 2

}

ctl.rd2 {

  type hw

  card 2

}

pcm.rd3 {

  type hw

  card 3

}

ctl.rd3 {

  type hw

  card 3

}

While the system sees only 1 input and 1 output on both cards, each is
capable of multiple analouge outputs. I just cant remember how I did it and
can't find my notes... but I digress..
The Audigy2 is able to play out as my stream is back up, but the SE is not
working at all, which is the one I use in studio for production.

Any suggestions on what I can try? Kinda feeling lost here...

Thanks in advanced...

[RDD] Scheduling a cart imported from a Dropbox..

2017-08-05 Thread Rich Gattie
Hello all!

I have a dropbox setup to import a file that a friend uploads, and it goes
into the library with no problems. I am creating new carts for each file
which is an hour of the show, that is imported.

My question now is, how do I get Rivendell to insert the last 2 carts in
that group, which would be Hrs 1 & 2, to the correct area of the log, the
9pm and 10pm hours of the log?

The log is already generated when he uploads the file, so what I have been
doing, is going into LogEdit and adding them manually.

So I'm looking to automate it now.

Suggestions?

[RDD] dropbox import settings

2017-05-29 Thread Rich Gattie
Hello all,

I'm working on setting up a dropbox for a show to be able to upload and
then have it import into the system and be ready for playout.

I do have a question, maybe a couple based on answers I get, about the "To
Cart" field in the RDAdmin>Manage Hosts>Dropboxes.
I want it import it to the next available cart in the group. Will that
happen if I leave it blank? Or do I HAVE to have a cart number to import to?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

[RDD] Unable to import audio or delete carts

2015-02-18 Thread Rich Gattie
Hello, and thanks for reading.

Well, I had to go play and try and get something to work, and have in turn
broken something else. I can't seem to import audio files, or delete carts
in RDLibrary.

I have checked the archives of the mailing list and made sure that the
owner and group for rdxport.cgi is correct, as well as for /var/snd.

I have even tried reinstalling from repos and still no luck. So I'm kind of
stuck as to what to try next. I am running 2.10.2 on Ubuntu, and database
schema is 242.

Any suggestions as to what to try next or what I should also be checking?

Thanks and 73!

[RDD] Using the web interface

2015-01-14 Thread Rich Gattie
Hi everyone! Hope everyone is good..

So I started getting curious about the web interface and what it can do.
After some google searches, I haven't seen anything on how to access it. I
got some help from teak__ on IRC (Thanks!) so I know how to get to the
webpages:

http://localhost/cgi-bin/rivendell/{webpage name}

Now, I'm not exactly sure how to use it.

For username, on all the pages, I'm assuming that it's asking for a
rivendell user, like admin and the password for that account.

On the listcarts.html page for example, I am guessing that group is the
cart group, like Music, Spots, etc...

Filter for narrowing it down and cuts for selecting the particular cut in
the cart if it has multiple carts.

So when I fill in some of the fields, I get an Error 500 Internet server
error. When I check the apache error logs, it says a premature end of
script header error.

Permissions look ok based on what I could find on earlier posts to this
list, which wasn't too much..

Any thoughts or suggestions on what I can try?

 I believe long comments. In lib/rdconf.cpp, GetIni has a 80 byte,

 into this buffer and smash the stack. There is no special comment
 processing in GetIni.

 Also, GetIniLine appears to have a bug where it doesn't necessarily
 null-terminate a string over BUFFER_SIZE. It won't copy more than
 BUFFER_SIZE - 1 bytes, but the final byte remains uninitialized.

  Yes. Like the kind in a broadcast studio. I know you could use just a

  I've been in radio for about 20 years, and dabbled in the engineering
 end of
  things here and there. I found Rivendell on a Google search, when I
 decided
  to get more into the technical end of broadcasting, as I am also an
 Amateur
  Radio operator.

  I talked my fiance, who I met at a radio station, into doing a podcast
 with
  me. My goal is to essentially build an Internet Radio station with mine
 and
  perhaps other podcasts as the main programming, using Rivendell as the
 play
  out system.

  Hi Richie
  Its great that your thinking of ways to use Rivendell. I use it to run
  wedding Discos with, as well the 2 radio stations that I work for.
  I've often thought it could be used in shopping malls for those radio
  type public address system we always hear where ever we go.

  When you say Console are you referring to a mixer console to adjust
  levels etc on your program?

   Hey folks..

   This could be off topic, and if so, please let me know and reply via
   direct
   email to me if you have suggestions/answers..

   I produce a lot of podcasts, on varying subjects and am in the process
   of
   building a home studio that can be used for internet radio. I love
   Rivendell
   and have it setup and running on a couple machines, all networked.
 But I
   am
   looking for suggestions for a console for my studio that could work
 with
   Rivendell. I'm of course on a budget and am thinking $700-$1200 would
 be
   the
   budget. Used consoles are of course, not out of the question.

   So ideas? Leads of where to look?

   Thanks
