I am using the most recent version: rkhunter-1.4.0.tar.gz, downloaded from
sourceforge.
I get this error prior to doing any modifications of any kind to any
files. All I am doing in gunzip'ing, running installer, then at step 3
below I get the error:
1) gunzip -dc rkhunter-1.4.0.tar.gz |tar -x

Could you provide us the output of:
ss -lt
netstat -tanp
lsof +c 0 -iTCP | grep -i liste

I have 2 identically
I just ran an md5sum on the package I downloaded and it looks the same as
yours:
[root@logserver rkh]# md5sum rkhunter-1.4.0.tar.gz
37b1ceb79a5ff3debca335d6550ac6b0 rkhunter-1.4.0.tar.gz
I have downloaded the package several times, in several different ways and
each time get the same result.
