Hi Peter,
What directory have you installed the binaries to?
Are you running the samba command with full path?
What command exactly?
Have you checked execution privilege on the partition?
Bye

Hi Peter,
If the install worked fine, then you should be able to run the daemon with:
/usr/local/samba/smbd -- -D
You probably can't call it without the full path because
/usr/local/samba/is not in your path.
If you want to remove a program compiled from source, go back to the source
directory
Pherhaps my thread can help you:HOWTO samba4 centos5.5 named dnsupdate
drbd simple failover
A simply make uninstall could help you.
But to start samba you need the executables in your PATH!!!

Well, all is mounted using openldap,. and I’m thinking how to reduce the
traffic net. My doubt is if I use a slave ldap server inside mail server

For the rest of points you comment all server has the same version of
I dont know if openldap supports master-to-master replication. (That would
be something to check with the openldap website, documentation or mailing
list) I use Sun/Oracle Directory Server which does.

Hello Andrew,
Thanks for the quick answer, I tried with the commands you advised, but no
success. The same message, command/directory not found. (the directory you

I have added libraries to PATH also.

Hi,
update1: I added some extra folders to PATH, and now it is ok, but the
strange thing, that when I test it with smbclient --version, it says 3.5.6,
not 4. as you write in the HowTo.
what can be the cause of this? Extra info, that I ran provision again, it
completes the process, but I have
try this to add samba4 exectuable to your Path
do this from a ssh client like putty, and then open putty and enter your ip
address of your debian computer, and click ssh and click open. Then login to
your ssh server on linux(through putty.)
and put this in the command line excally:
Marco, I followed your instructions and I couldn't connect, my config is:

workgroup = CASA
netbios name = bangkok
security = user
passdb backend = tdbsam
map to guest = bad password
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
[grabar]
comment = file sharing
path = /var/share
browseable = yes
Chris, after following Marco guideline and fail I followed the
tutorial you recommend to me, please see below:
[global]
workgroup = CASA
netbios name = bangkok
security = user
passdb backend = tdbsam
Map to guest = Bad User
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers

There are three DCs in my Windows 2003 AD domain, but I have noticed
that only one of them is referenced in my krb.conf and krb5.conf. Should
there be a reference to one or two of the other domain controllers? If
the DC goes down, how will my Samba/Winbind servers authenticate?

Hello to all,
I came across openafs: http://openafs.org/. And it looks quiet good enough
to give it a try with samba.
Has someone did a successful setup with samba and openafs?
For the samba technical: I thought especially it could be the link in the
missing dfs replication in samba4 ?
