[Samba] SWAT connecting to wrong IP

2004-04-21 Thread Jules Colding
Hi,

I am having a problem with swat. Everything works, except the status
page. Looking in the swat log it says:

### START #

Now, 10.0.0.1 does not even exist in our subnet which is 192.168.1.*.
There was once a time where our subnet for a brief period of time was
10.0.0.* but not anymore.

Which cache file do I have to delete to make swat forget the 10.0.0.1
address?

Thanks in advance,
  jules

What would happen if you tried to run /domainprep?

[Samba] Print job progress with cups?

Hi,

I'm resending this question, as it has gone un-replied for 6 weeks...

Is it possible to have samba report print job progress to clients? Just
the word printing on the active job is a bit vague when printjobs are
often close to 100 MB...

Samba 3.0.2a
cups 1.1.4

printing = cups
printcap name = cups

 Hello.
I'm hoping that you will provide some help with a Samba problem that
 I'm
 experiencing.
We have an Alphaserver that has been functioning as the Samba-server
in a Windows/NT Domain for about 5 years now. It was set up by an
 engineer
here at Raytheon Missile Systems Company and he left the company about 2
years ago. I've inherited the administration of it.
  Last week the Alphaserver's unix (TRU-64 V 4.0F) boot-drive
crashed
 and
a replacement disk was built from a (5 day old) backup tape. Samba did
not
work after that and I'm quite sure - from the error-messages - that it's
 because
the Alphaserver's NT-machine-account's password is out-of-sync with what
the PC/winNT side remembers it to be last set to.
I can not get Samba to run as it had been running all of these years
-
 i.e.:
with security = domain and password server = * specified in the
 smb.conf
 file.
I can get Samba up and running with security = server and
password
 server
 = PDC,BDC,Alphaserver. But the Samba-functionality ceases after a
while,
 even
though the Samba-daemons are still running.
How can I remove the Alphaserver from the NT Domain and thereby
delete
 its
machine-account, so that I can then add it back into the Domain with a
new
 machine
account-name and associated machine-account-password? (I'd like to also
go
back to using security = domain in the smb.conf file.)
I have read the html help files but nothing there referrences
taking
 an existing
Samba-server out of a Windows Domain and then adding it back in again in
 order
to re-set the machine-accountname and its password.
Any help light that you could shed on this issue would be greatly
 appreciated.
 Sincerely,
 Bob Shaffo

[Samba] How to set permissions to mount share?

2004-04-21 Thread Jody Cleveland
Hello,

I've got two redhat 3 as servers. I'm trying to mount a share on one,
this is the command I'm using:
# mount -t smbfs -o username=backup,password=*** //mystique/etc
/mnt/backup/etc

When I do that, I get this error:
13636: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
SMB connection failed

Now, on the one server, I've created a samba share to the /etc directory
and given the user backup permissions to read it. Why would I be getting
that error when I try to run mount?

[Samba] AD and home directory on Linux

2004-04-21 Thread Turbo Fredriksson
I'm trying to get my home directory (automaticly) mounted from the
AD server via SMB - I can't (don't want to) use NFS, because that
fucks up the file modes (even with SFU it's not compatible enough).

Using LibNSS/LDAP and LibPAM/{LDAP,Krb5} will authenticate me,
get me a ticket and overall work exactly as planed.

However, my home directory isn't availible (I had to create an
empty directory, so that the nss/pam stuff will work - if the
directory doesn't exists login is denied).

Trying to use 'smbmount' fails if using 'krb' as auth method:

- s n i p -
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbmount //majorskan/turbo /mnt/turbo -o krb
Warning: kerberos support will only work for samba servers
Anonymous login successful
12034: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
SMB connection failed
- s n i p -

TUZJFI is the Linux client (a SS5 running Debian GNU/Linux semi-
stable) and 'majorskan' is a 'Windows 2k3 Advanced Server'. Using
username/password option works though (but only as root) so I'm
half way there :)

- s n i p -
[tuzjfi.pts/2]# smbmount //majorskan/turbo /mnt/turbo -o username=turbo,password=turbo
[tuzjfi.pts/2]# file /mnt/turbo
/mnt/turbo: directory
- s n i p -

What's a little 'disturbing' is the warning and 'anon login' msgs
from smbmount...

From what I can tell, I can't use AutoFS, because that needs a
password and that's not possible for site-wide setup (to many
users, to many passwords :).

Any ideas anyone?

[Samba] Passwords expiring on 2.2.8a

2004-04-21 Thread Paul Gienger
We have our 2.2.8a network functioning, well with the standard smbpasswd
backend. Lately people have started getting messages about their
password expiring. I haven't seen anyplace in this version that a
person can enforce password aging. One person has changed their
password and then it stopped, I believe that if I change their (samba)
password on the server it stops as well. Password aging is not enabled
on the UNIX accounts either.

We really don't want people changing their samba password yet, as passwd
sync isn't enabled for several reasons, not the least of which is that
we do a lot of authenticating with LDAP and this is seperate. Once we
get to Samba3 we may actually use this feature, but for now I can't do
that upgrade and don't want people to change their password willy nilly.

Has anyone seen this and found a way to get the machines to stop
complaining about expiring passwords?

[Samba] Foxpro for DOS and Samba

2004-04-21 Thread Stephen N J Wade
We have an NT4 server where some Foxpro 2.6 for dos data files (dbf and cdx
files) are located. We have a Foxpro 2.6 for DOS application that resides
on the NT4 server along with the FPD26 runtimes and executables.

We also have a Linux server running DOSEMU that mounts a share under Samba
2.2.8a on the NT4 server to access the same data files via a copy of the
.app and runtimes located on the linux server.

The Fox pro app runs fine under Dosemu, everything appears to work fine, but
we get regular data loss from the tables i.e. records are not written to the
files, or indexes are not updated correctly.

Does anyone know if this setup is known to cause problems?

Cheers

Steve Wade

This means kerberos was not used (as the warning said could happen). Solution?
I was also playing with this the last few days, and no go, even with CIFS. It's
still a work in progress.

Perhaps you could try the pam_mount module, it will grab the password from
previous modules and mount filesystems. I'm not sure if it's still maintained, though.

[Samba] Winbind and its log message

2004-04-21 Thread Hai Wu
The server is a NT 4.0 domain member server. It uses Winbind.

Everytime I login to the system using system local user, such as root,
it says this:
[2004/04/21 11:01:39, 1]
nsswitch/winbindd_group.c:winbindd_getgroups(954)
  user 'root' does not exist

Everytime I tried to switch to another local user, such as su bb, it
would say in /var/log/messages:
[2004/04/21 10:59:15, 1]
nsswitch/winbindd_group.c:winbindd_getgroups(954)
  user 'bb' does not exist

Is this a normal behavior? Or is there any setting that would turn these
messages off?

Thanks,
Hai

Re: [Samba] WINS question..More questions

At 06:51 AM 4/21/2004 -0600, you wrote:

Yes, but currently, we have a NT server, but not running as a PDC (unless
someone didn't tell me something. :/ ).
Best to lower the OS level anyway? Maybe 33?

You need to have all your clients register with the WINS server for it to
find names. The easiest way would be to add the WINS to you DHCP server,
so all the clients will automatically find out about it.
All the clients are pointing to the samba server as a WINS server, so that
should be working ok.

My guess is, I have some sort of conflict (possibly) between the samba wins
server and the NT server.

I appreciate the help.

This happens only with the 3.0.3pre series here. 3.0.2a works.

This is probably fixed in 3.0.3rc1 (due out soon).

We also have a Linux server running DOSEMU that mounts a share under Samba

The Fox pro app runs fine under Dosemu, everything appears to work fine, but

Does anyone know if this setup is known to cause problems?

Last time I looked at Dosemu, I believe it was having file/record
locking issues with any kind of mounted drive. They may have fixed it now.

Have you read about oplocks yet and the registry changed need on Win

[Samba] help with smbmount and permissions

2004-04-21 Thread Chris J. Bottaro
ok, on my windows machine, i see:
myname on 'computer01\home' (H:)

so i went to my linux box and did:
smbclient -L //computer01 -U myname
and i see Home listed as a sharename (why does windows show it as home but its
really Home as reported by smbclient?).

well everything works fine if i mount it like this:
smbmount //computer01/Home /mnt/computer01/Home -o username=myname

but i want to mount computer01/Home/myname directly...something like this:
smbmount //computer01/Home/myname /home/myname -o username=myname

but that fails saying the sharename does not exist...as observed by the smbclient
command.

but an even bigger problem is that if i mount it as root using the first (working)
smbmount command, then exit root and cd into myname, i can read files, but i can't
write. how can i remedy this?

thank you for the help.

When attempting to join my Samba box to my AD domain, I get the following:

The machine account is created in AD when I run net join. I have been
deleting it between attempts to join the domain,

I am running Samba 3.0.2a on Debian GNU/Linux 3.0r2. My domain is a Windows
2000 mixed-mode domain with no WINS server. Samba was compiled from source
with the following options:

--with-prefix=/opt/samba --with-winbind

My smb.conf file is as follows:

[global]
  workgroup = OTSHDQTR
  netbios name = DEBSERV1
  security = domain
  password server = 192.168.0.20
  client ntlmv2 auth = yes
  log file = /opt/samba/var/log/log.%m
  log level = 3
winbind use default domain = yes

Searching Google and the archives turned up a single hit: a nearly identical
problem (posted April 14th) that nobody responded to.

Any suggestions?

RE: [Samba] help with smbmount and permissions

2004-04-21 Thread Chris J. Bottaro
almost...fmask should be 0666 and dmask should be 0777 (i.e. they're backwards...=),
but yeah, that fixed the problem, albeit in a not so clean way (i.e. everyone has
these permissions).

here's my naive take on the situation. the problem lies in that since root issues the
smbmount command, the resulting mounted filesystem is owned by root. your fix changes
the permissions of the files and dirs in the mounted filesystem, but the ownership
stays with root. is there anyway to mount the filesystem as the user who is going to
use it? or if not, mount the filesystem as root, but change ownership of the newly
mounted filesystem to a different UID?

thanks again for your help.

For multi-user database files you should disable oplocking for the sahre

oplocks = no
level2 oplocks = no

Do a man smb.conf and look for more details on oplocks.

use 'cifs' or 'simple' as ntvfs handler
this also warns about 'root' fileaccess in the 'simple' module

the 'default' ntvfs handler is now registered by the posix backend

svn commit: samba r316 - in branches/SAMBA_3_0/source: lib passdb

2004-04-21 Thread vlendec
Author: vlendec

New Revision: 316

Modified:
   branches/SAMBA_3_0/source/lib/util_sid.c
   branches/SAMBA_3_0/source/passdb/passdb.c
Log:
Fix split_domain_name. This defaulted to get_myname() instead of
get_global_sam_name().

Error case: Adding a domain user to a XP local group did a lsalookupname on
the user without domain prefix, and this then failed.

Jerry: This is a must-fix before 3.0.3.
