Just to say I've decided to give up on Opera because there are just too many
pages it won't open - so I'm back with faithful old Explorer that although it
gets dissed by many *always* opens everything! Dee faint_grain.jpg
I quite like all the animations so I have them playing. I believe you can
set the browsers not to do this though. Dee

I've REPLACED every part in a PC for $300.
Does ANY part of a MAC cost that little?
Average life of a PC for me is 6 to 8 years...in a damp dirty natural
environment...IF ..I blow all the thick layers of dust, spider webs,
insect parts and pollen off the boards, fan blades and cooling
I use Avant Browser (freeware) which is an overlay of Internet
Explorer. It has buttons for shutting off pictures and flash
animations, as well as pop-ups which is very useful. You can also shut
off other stuff from a convenient pulldown menu. I can't stand
reading stuff on the computer when
Ubuntu rocks and it free.

I'm in the process of finding an old box to load Linux on and play with, to

What kind of failures have you had on PC's? What brand of PC did you
have, the Green Machines are not well built and are failure prone, but
other brands such as HP and Compaq are very well made. Since Macs and
PC contain the same components, modems, power supplies, disk drives, I

Oh dear, I suppose its the old saying again 'that you can't have everything'
. I too have had a page that won't open but I have had that with IE
sometimes and definitely had it with Firefox. Dee

Oh, good.
Guess I should have read *all* the messages before replying,
sorry 'bout that! Yes, Opera rocks,
is at the same
level as me, and she has used both and she does prefer windows for ease of
use. Mac is also *much* more expensive I find. Dee

Sorry, I probably shouldn't have brought that up.
Mac vs PC is actually a kind of religious discussion for a lot of people,
so maybe we should leave it alone.
But I do actually have both, Macs for desktops and PCs (running Linux) for
servers. They each have their merits, IMO. And Sorry Mike,
I also like Opera but I use Firefox for one main reason -- Flashblocker.
All browsers need something like it. I also require an option to default
GIF animation to off, which Chrome does not offer for some reason.
(Flashblocker causes Flash elements on a page to be replaced with a blank

I have found PC's to be very reliable, I have has several running
continuously for over 15 years with no hardware failures whatsoever. On
the other hand the Windows operating system, which many people use on
PC's is very unreliable, unstable, and hackable.
