This may be an obvious question, but is your Mac connected via Wi-Fi? If so,
you’re going to have problems using the default networking. I tried to do this
several years ago, and never found a totally satisfactory solution. I figured
it was worth checking, because if this doesn’t work nothing
Ray,
I’m not of that older generation myself, but this project is something I’d
definitely endorse. Part of the problem, I think, is that a lot of these
operating systems aren’t as interesting without applications to layer on top.

Hi Bill,
Kermit is definitely robust enough to do what you want. You could always do the
“type the file to your terminal and copy paste,” dance too. That would work for
text files particularly. ON OS X at least there’s a way to save terminal output
to a text file as well.
I don’t know about
Hi All,
So I’ve been messing with the HP3000 simulator lately, and have become curious
about the advantages of using a real, or emulated, HP terminal with MPE.
I was wondering if anybody knew of emulators for OS X or Linux, my preferred
platforms.
More to the point, is their anything an HP
Hi,
I’m looking forward to experimenting with this. Gaming-wise, Empire, one of the
few really complex strategy games playable as a blind computer user, was
produced for the HP3000. I don’t know enough about the system to tell if this
was the OS in question, but I’d love to get a look at it
Hi All,
I was wondering if there were copies of any ITS tapes, aside from Minsys,
online anywhere? Reference is made to them in ai: kshack; build doc, but I
can’t seem to find them. I can probably make dump tapes based on the AI
filesystem archives easily enough, but wondered if anyone had

Hi All,
I’ve begun trying out Tops-20 on the KLH10 emulator, and also have an interest
in ITS for the sheer novelty of the operating environment.
I don’t know a lot about PDP10 CPU families, but was wondering how the two
emulators compare.
I gather DEC didn’t release newer versions of Tops-20
Well, I don’t really know what I ought to be doing about this one quite yet. I
did mount the tape under VMS 7.3, after figuring out that the magtape device is
msa0, not MUA0.
It isn’t a file structured volume, however. Backup can’t seem to find any
savesets, claiming it isn’t an ANSI tape.

Hi,
I’m trying to boot

mostly for interest’s sake. I presume this is an installation tape of some
sort.
I’ve tried on the VaxSserver 3900 simulator, but always seem to get a

I’ve been reading about the VAX 780 tonight, and kind of curious what I could
get to run with it. I have what seems to be a tape of VMS 1.5 from Bitsavers,
but it doesn’t seem straight-forward to boot.
I’m wondering if anybody has managed to get this working.

Hi All,
So as I delve into VMS and related concepts, I’ve come across mention of
console terminals and “operator’s consoles.”
I gather that SIMH simulates one of these when the machine starts up, but I’m a
bit less clear on how this compares to the real hardware.
When the VAX boots, it
Bill,
As far as I’m aware you’ll need to copy and paste into your terminal emulator
of choice. This requires making some changes in sys$system:modparams.dat on the
VMS side.
I have
min_TTY_TYPAHDSZ=2064
min_TTY_ALTYPAHD=2064
MIN_MAXBUF=12000
This will make it easier to copy and paste large
I didn’t realize the LCM was in Seattle. THat’s pretty close to me, I’ll have
to try and get over there when I can rope in an interested sighted friend.
Thanks for the insights and video links, all. I have to admit searching Youtube
hadn’t occurred to me.
Best,
Zack.

This is around 50% humorous, but it’s still a thing I’ve been thinking about
lately. From a newbie’s perspective, all SIMH machines are very similar. The
worst thing about emulation is that the “feel,” of the original hardware
doesn’t seem to be there. Simh can emulate tons of hardware from
Hi,
THe key is that it’s DUA one, not Dual. :)

Hi All,
So the recent RSTS/E discussion has got me wondering what OS’s I might be able
to run under SIMH with readable documentation. As a totally blind enthusiast I
can’t really use the Bitsavers collection without manually running OCR on the
PDFs, a tedious and error-prone process.
I’m aware
Hi All,
I’m 98% of the way there with the bridged VDE setup mentioned in my earlier
thread. I appreciate all the help from folks here, and wonder if anybody might
have ideas for debugging some hiccups.

Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody could give me some tips on networking with my
MacBook air. I used to run a virtual VMS system a few years back, but that was
on Windows and/or Linux, with access to “real,” ethernet devices.
I’ve since switched to the wifi-only Macbook Air, and it isn’t
