Thanks,
I understand the basics of ZFS and how to create zvols / datasets etc but what
I am looking for is the JSON required for vmadm to allow me to link the said
zvol / dataset (preferably in the global zone) to the kvm vm (assuming that it
is possible).

Me can correct but.
1) In KVM machine, there is no such thing as zvol / dataset inside. For
the work you get. Roughly speaking, a virtual disk.
You can view all the available options in section vmad man
disks:
- You can make them mo than one
- You can specify the compression option to them,
Hi,

a KVM virtual machine. I was hoping to setup the new zvol / dataset on a
different zpool (not zones). I've read some discussions about using lofs but
that seems to only work with LX or SmartOS zones.

STEC did. They also said synchronize_cache is a nop.
I’ve been working a lot with
I don't know. What we know is that the sync write performance of zil drive
is awful if cache-nonvolatile:true is not set.

Hi Robert,
so let me try the other way around then: Do you know a device where the
manufacturer explicitly says so?

Most (if not all) so called of enterprise class SSD claim to be power-save
(being equipped with supercaps to power the drive until DRAM write cache is
emptied).
In case of a power failure no system will be able to send a synchronize command
to the drive, so what sense would the supercap make

Sure, it does say it's power safe. Are you sure that means you don't
need to issue synchronize
it is power safe and we've tested it here.

In general, you should _never_ set this value.
