I've typed in the shell as root chmod 777 /etc/peers/speedtch and chmod 777 /lib/firmware/speedtch*, but nothing has changed. Maybe have I forgotten any other file? Kppp seems to recognize a modem on ttyS0 (isn't it a serial port?), because it begins the initialization, but then it shuts down.

don't use kpp start it with the shell or with the startup, and copy both the files to speedtouch, not speedtch for some reason the last time i used it i had to rename the files try to copy them with the speedtouch name and then launch the script in the shell it should work tha

What does have no response mean? Do you get a command line prompt back again (i.e. the command finishes executing)? Can you please copy and paste the exact output into an email and send it to the list. Yes, I mean that. In the etc/sudoers file there's no line with targetpw. I have created

the problem is the sudo try su root insert root password then under root user try pppd call speedtch (if i remember correctly it should be in some sbin directory, so you may have to write the full path when typing the command) if it doesn't log in root user, then you have a huge problem,
