the problem is the sudo....
try "su root"
insert root password
then under root user try "pppd call speedtch" (if i remember correctly it
should be in some sbin directory, so you may have to write the full path
when typing the command)....
if it doesn't log in root user, then you have a huge problem, so you have to
make a backup of your system and reinstall linux.... remember, never forget
the root password, cause there's no way you can recover it....
