Bob-
Thanks for the reply. I guess my only question then is it seems to me there
should be some type of a limitation on 8.8.5.1.2 (2) with regard to
deflector distance above the obstruction, similar to table 8.8.5.1.2.?

Is anyone aware of a prohibition against having two floor control assemblies
on each floor connected to two different standpipes and calculating the loop to
size the sprinkler main?

Hello Ronl.Fletcher,
There are a few high rises here setup that way around here... BIG thing is the
alarm company has to put the flow switches on different points so it can be
verified that BOTH work during the test. Inspectors need to know to look for 2
flow alarms from each floor and have a

If my memory serves me correctly, there was a time when NFPA 14 prohibited
it. My 2003 edition doesn't have it. So if it was prohibited, it was in an
edition older than 2003.

I have had some jurisdictions require it as a precautionary measure i.e. a
standpipe that might be out of service. However, I have not seen it allowed
to improve hydraulics.

When I get in the way back machine I remember that it was verboten at some
point. It seems to be okay now so long as the flow switch operates on the flow
of one head.
