Curtis, this is a multi building apartment complex. Some of the buildings are
13 (handicap units) and some are 13R. The buildings protected per 13 are going
to have the canopies sprinklered; that was never in question. It was the 13R
buildings with the way the standard/code are written. I spoke
Dwayne,
You can take a standard companion flange to a good machine shop and
they can turn it down to the exact size you need.

I would check to make sure that the air supply to the DPV is working as it
should. The time to trip should never be that long. Is the by-pass open? Sounds
like the make-up air is supplying to much air. The make up air needs to be
restricted. The supply line to the Inspectors Test can be larger

Very good feedback. This system was installed in 2006 and is a Victaulic
dpv. We have none of the original acceptance test paperwork but would make
an assumption that it would have passed then. It appears to be a small
system. Mike ,you are right about the by-pass line as it appears that there

Be sure to check the air water solenoid on these valves, we have had issues
with these. They do not operate like a typical dry pipe. There was also a recal
that applied to certain pin assemblies on the check!

Victaulic DPV have very low supervisory air pressures. They act more like a
Pre-action valve the clapper is held in place by an actuator. Air pressure is
critical to the operation. You must have an operating Air Maintenance Device.
The high low differential is only somewhere around 5 to 7 psi
Was it a Victaulic #756 or #768? Look closely at the differential piston if it
is a #756 some time they stick.

Fortunately for us, it's been when our inspector is there wondering why 80 PSI
and zero air doesn't raise the clapper.
And the time the DPV acted with smart logic- somehow it knew the attic low
point wasn't drained, so when it broke, the DPV didn't trip and cause all that
nasty water damage.
Good point there was a corrosion issue with the piston. I recall that Victaulic
had a published procedure for repair and I think a material change later down
the road. Check Vic's web site or call tech support.
