So, if this same tank and pump were at the same elevation and 5 blocks away
in a Water Utility Yard owned by the city water department, what pressure and
flow rate would one use to design a sprinkler system?

I've had at least one Official state (opinion) that the "Fire Flow" @ 20 PSI"
was never intended to be "provided to the site hydrants". It is simply a
recommendation for the benefit of Fire Fighters using their pumpers and hoes to
"preserve" 20 psi in the city water main for all the obvious
Hi Scot,
Long time no argue with !! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn’t that called the
"Gas Laws" and for good reason, it's different from Hydraulics? If you fill a
standpipe system from the bottom and vent the system at the top to evacuate the
air (gas), you could achieve a hydraulic lock in
In years past, we have actually enlisted the service of the local Fire Station
to bring out a pumper truck, hook an existing hydrant and fill and pressurize
the standpipe. The inspector came back after the requisite 2 hours and signed
it off. It's all about relationships.

When you say boat storage would be questionable, are you just accommodating
open-top aluminum fishing boats as low risk/hazard? Otherwise boat storage vs
RV storage are the same IMHO.

Is anyone online this morning willing to discuss the Noted Table in the fire
code.
My question, on behalf of a building owner is...
" What is the application of the three boxes at the right hand side of the
Table labeled
NON-SPRINKLERED
Any Height
NR (Not Required)"
I have to admit, it makes

Maybe you should have suggested to the ahj that it needed a total flooding
inert gas system with optical detection as the primary protection system with a
6% AR /AFFF deluge system for redundancy. You just never know when someone
might leave a box of Bic pens in their locker (Flammable liquid

Another thing to keep in mind is that having combustible material in the attic

I believe you're correct in your assumptions and suppositions. We designed and
build a water supply system very similar to yours a number of years ago but it
has three domestic pumps plus our fire pump. The settings in the individual
controllers are easily arranged to accommodate this. The
Please don't throw rocks at me for this, but if the building isn't normally

in it? You don't say what the construction type is but these are commonly metal

Do you have to perform the test or do they do it?

I am looking for a general idea for the completed cost of a residential
sprinkler system using a wet pipe antifreeze (cold climate location). The
project is a high end two story custom home of around 6,000 square feet of
protected space and has an adequate city water supply. I’m not looking
to activate more than one system with the same fire (say two levels
with a large open communicating space, or open grate flooring? Or even just two
tanks that are close together.

If you haven't gotten a response on this question, I'll offer a couple of
questions to gather information.
1. Are there exterior walls that enclose the individual floors?
2. Are the floors solid with large openings, or grated with large
openings?
3. What type of equipment is
