Could you use a different type of detector near the doors that would be easier to de-ice or more tolerant of ice buildup? Maybe a pilot detector head? It could be changed out more easily as ice builds up. Matt From: Sprinklerforum On Behalf Of Russell Gregory via Sprinklerforum Sent:

We have a problem with ice forming on LHD cable inside a Coldstore at the access doors. The LHD is “Protectowire” and is used as the first detection for a Double Interlock Pre Action system. The Coldstore temperature is -10⁰C. 1. Is there any way to reduce or prevent this condensing water

In the original post, I believe the area was classified as ordinary hazard, not necessarily storage. So does that change things? I agree with the previous posts that it seems odd to say we can call the area under the door light hazard when using a standard spray head but can’t do so when using

Water jet stream and water spray are terms in SDS documents typically referring to the manual firefighting methods, i.e. Hand held hose lines and straight stream-fog nozzle. Water is the common control media for these types of rooms and depending on the size of the room and quantity of

A theatre (for theatrical performances) has a room named "Film Studio". I'm trying to get more information, but meanwhile does anyone know the design occupancy for a standard film studio? The contractor wants to design this room to light hazard, but I'm not sure. Tony > >

Can you use deluge sprinklers to cover a mechanical room that has a hydraulic pump for a material lift? It appears that water spray is a suitable extinguishing media but not a water jet stream due to potentially scattering the oil and spreading fire. Best, Timothy M. Easter

My experience has been that if it’s an accessory use room for a performing arts building (and I’m not referring to common areas like a restroom, office or lobby), then it can (and will!) be used for storage, set building, whatever. Film and TV studios may contain a wide range of combustibles

Kyle, You do raise an interesting (to sprinkler people) series of questions. If a 0.10 density is acceptable in one scenario, why not another? I would venture to guess with one standard sprinkler operating under an obstruction, you can achieve an ordinary hazard density without even trying.

If there's condensation on the LHD, is there also condensation on the sprinkler piping and or the structure? The correct way to fix this problem is for the owner to build a vestibule or to use forced air blowers to keep the warm air out. Benjamin Young On Tue, Sep 3, 2019 at 8:46 AM Mario
