Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Moving LMS to a new computer

2021-08-17 Thread Michael Herger

Can I move my LMS to a new computer without having to scan my library
again?

It depends... but a new system would certainly need to be able to scan
your library, wouldn't it? Why try to skip it initially?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Installing LMS on my new DS420+

2021-08-17 Thread Michael Herger

1. not all docker images are the same.
I have played around quite a number of different images. The size of
these images varies greatly from image to images. the official LMS
community build is only 200 some Mbs. some others are as big as 900's
mbs. What causes this differences in size?

Various factors: the OS base image makes a big difference. Another
important factor is additional libraries and helpers being installed. I
know that some images come with features the official image doesn't
have. Those come with some additional file size.

2. Most of the images do not support asian characters, including the
official LMS build. Some showed scrambled characters, some showed
phonetic form, while very few can display these asian characters

Where would you see those characters? In the web UI? On a
Controller/Touch/Radio? Or on a Classic/Transporter?

3. Do you have any idea whether picore player LMS supports asian
characters or not?

Please define "support". See above question: it's not clear what is not
working. I have some Arabic in my collection, and that works fine using
pCP to run LMS and the web UI, but it wouldn't render correctly in
Squeezeplay (Touch, Radio). That's a limitation in those devices, not on
the server.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.2.0 released

2021-08-17 Thread Michael Herger

I have logged the memory usage during the rescan under 8.2.1. The result
is roughly the same as in 7.9.3. Start at about 48%, up to 58%, then to
about 68% at the end and then it stops. The fact that the usage is 3-5 %
points higher may only have to do with the running performance monitor
or other background processes. The memory usage of 68% does not go down
after the abort. Scanner.log is identical to my first mail. According to
the log, the abort occurs at the completion of the 4th full-text index
(playlists).

One more check you could run: how much space is left on the device where
you have your LMS cache (see Settings/Information), and/or the system's
temporary folder ("ECHO %Temp%" in a command window)?

I just moved all my playlists out of the playlist-folder and then the

Thanks! I'll see whether I can find something.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] New LMS version notification shows commits vs changelog

2021-08-17 Thread Michael Herger

The "all changes" and "More" links both link to the Commits timeline
list which TBH I find quite hard to read.

I'm sure these new version notifications used to display or link to the
changelog which I found to give a much better idea of new
features/bugfixes etc. and much easier to read - I eventually found it:
You're probably right in that the current "changelog" implementation is
more oriented towards the users of nightly builds, where more
granularity would be expected.

I'll think about how to change this.

Hi there!

hope all is well!

I have a few questions and thought you might be able to answer. I am
using the transport.

1. not all docker images are the same.
I have played around quite a number of different images. The size of
these images varies greatly from image to images. the official LMS
community build is only 200 some Mbs. some others are as big as 900's
mbs. What causes this differences in size?

2. Most of the images do not support asian characters, including the
official LMS build. Some showed scrambled characters, some showed
phonetic form, while very few can display these asian characters
correctly. There are two available images that support asian characters.
They both are built based on the image originally created by larsks.
Larsks original image is no longer available. Can the official images be
built to include these supports?

3. Do you have any idea whether picore player LMS supports asian
characters or not?

Thanks for your support.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Help request: LMS not starting up after reboot

2021-08-17 Thread janpeeters

Hi all,

already for a long time I have the problem that my Logitech Media Server
(often) doesn't startup after reboot.
It is set to:
"Automatically start server when system boots"
I've tried it at "Automatically start server at login" with no different
results.

I'm running LMS 8.2 on a macMini running macOS 10.13.6. The problem also
occurred with older versions like 7.8 and 7.9 as far as I remember.

I've looked in the server logs but can't find anything (see pasted logs
below).
I've asked myself if maybe my startup time is too long and that
therefore LMS misses it's chance to startup but the startup is not
dramatically long.
I would welcome some ideas.

As a workaround solution I've wondered if there is a way to check if LMS
is running and if not to start it through a script? I'm not experienced
in scripting languages though.

Thanks for any help,

Jan

Just install over your current version.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Disconnecting players

2021-08-17 Thread stephanvdplas

After a lot of investigating and cross-testing, the issues are
pinpointed as follows:

- The root couse of the issue can be:
* network issue
* restart of the squeezeserver service.

This is of course not strange. A network issue or a restart of the
service leads to a disconnect. BUT imho the players should automatically
reconnect after a small time. My SB radio's and software players do
reconnect automatically. But the SB receivers and Boom don't. Only way
to reconnect is a power-cycle by unplugging the power cable for some
seconds.

I can imagine that all other things being equal, a Linux server will
probably run faster and perhaps more stable. But I haven't had any
performance problems or stability issues so far.
The music is stored on two external USB3 hard drives, each with 6TB
capacity. And there are two of the same attached on my primary, current
notebook that I use as backups (and the rest of my data).

I think what Michael was inferring was that a Linux server on like for

PC to do the music file editing exposing the files on the Linux box to

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] New LMS version notification shows commits vs changelog

2021-08-17 Thread mr-b

Hi

On LMS 8.1 I see a notice "A new version of Logitech Media Server is
available. (Click here) "

Then clicking the link gives:

"An updated version of Logitech Media Server is available and ready to
install.
A new version of Logitech Media Server is available (8.2.0 - ). Click
here for further information. "

Material then has just another link "More" linking to
https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commits/public/8.1

The Default skin gives a bit more of a clue of what's new with a rather
cryptic list of the latest Commits:

"Latest Changes (all changes)

2021-06-24
• Improve architecture discovery for Apple Silicon based systems.
2021-05-30
• Merge pull request #610 from philippe44/8.1-misc HTTP get metadata
propagates current wmaMeta to other HTTP tracks
• HTTP get metadata propagates current wmaMeta to other HTTP tracks
2021-05-24
• Merge pull request #608 from
philippe44/boilter-plate-code-for-remote-header-parsing boiler plate
code for remote header parsing
2021-05-21
• do flac/flc before looking for parser!

More"

The "all changes" and "More" links both link to the Commits timeline
list which TBH I find quite hard to read.

I'm sure these new version notifications used to display or link to the
changelog which I found to give a much better idea of new
features/bugfixes etc. and much easier to read - I eventually found it:

http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/8.2/Changelog8.html#v8.2.0

Could a link to the friendly changelog be (re)instated please with these
notifications?
