Thanks for the effort and suggestion. I'll give it (and WSL hosting) a go. The RPi suggestions are very interesting academically but I would have done that already, had it been an option. I asked about Windows specifically. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS into DLNA/UPNP end point: Real world experiences
I was (and still am) a Slim Devices Transporter user since 2006 (now in my office for streaming Qobuz and local file playback) and currently run a lightweight, fanless PC running squeezelite as my LMS endpoint into my DAC over USB in my main system. I am an LMS groupie and will not be changing...however, there are a lot of nice devices out there (sotm, aurender, lumin, auralic etc) that look interesting and beg to be bench marked against my current endpoint, but the only conduit for LMS to talk to these devices is over DLNA. I am 100% sure that the LMS DLNA implementation is rock solid but wanted to check if anyone runs LMS with DLNA into these types of devices: - Any stability issues? - If the device has a fancy screen, do you get cover art etc I am not worried about sound quality (thats down to the individual device) but rather whether they work well with LMS/DLNA Thanks, Peter ricko's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=72302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115607 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] QLogitechMediaServer for Qnap with QTS 4.2 or higher and x86_64/I686/X86 support !
Just checking - is there a newer version of QLMS than 2.25.00? If it's there, my AppCenter on the QTS doesn't show the available update, could this have something to do with my NAS's processor architecture - armv7l? mnd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69064 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108702 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Portable server install? (Windows external drive)
Another RPi supporter here ... sorry ... but some ideas might help as well. I've setup a RPi Zero 2W as an LMS for travel over Christmas. I also prepared a very old Apple Airport Express and configured it as a wired access point. It has the same WiFi SSID and passphrase as the home setup so it should mean that it simply has to be connected via Ethernet to the router at the destination location and then everyone who already has their phone & laptop configured to access the home network will automatically connect in the Christmas location - both for internet and music. Also sending a battery powered AirPlay device which should also automatically connect to the familiar WiFi. The LMS will connect via WiFi but if Ethernet (I have USB to Ethernet hub) is in a convenient location (eg near a TV) then will probably switch it to wired and use HDMI out as an extra player from the LMS device. In this set-up it might be necessary to fiddle with network addresses but only needed if too much WiFi traffic for stable play. On Windows ... LMS puts files in particular places so you would have to use command line parameters to put them in places it can access (rather than ProgramData). Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Players disappeared after installing a VM
Problem solved. When I noticed that LMS would detect my SqueezePlay or SqueezePad as clients, and it's only the Chromecasts that were not found, I dove into the Chromecast Bridge settings. And yes, that one did have a "Network binding and port" setting that allowed me to force my hardware network rather than virtual one that Chromecast Bridge was apparently guessing incorrectly. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Portable server install? (Windows external drive)
Well, an easy solution is to make a portable server with an SSD and a Raspberry Pi. I put one together in a case salvaged from an old media player, with a 2Tb SSD drive and a Raspberry Pi3. Presumably you could set it up to access wifi at your destination or as an access point. Hi again, I'm not 100% sure, but after monitoring for a while, it seems fairly common that the artwork and metadata go away when you turn Boom or Radio on or off. funkymaster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69814 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113768 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Portable server install? (Windows external drive)
Interesting question, because LMS is effectively portable by design. Never installed it on Windows myself though so I'm not sure how they organized things to start LMS using an exe rather than a shell (cmd/bat) command. My guess is that it is the exe that makes it a static install, so that will need to go and you should start LMS same as is done on e.g. Linux. >From the current installation copy the folder that contains the file `slimserver.pl` and it's entire content. The next thing you require is Perl and the OS specific code LMS indicates that this is installed in C:\perl and I don't think this is portable. A portable version of Perl does exist however and can be downloaded 'HERE' (https://strawberryperl.com/releases.html). Make sure to get the version for which Windows arch specific are included in LMS which I believe is 5.14 - verify by running `C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe -v` Create a batch file with the following content on the USB stick. Code: @echo off rem Edit the following two lines to match the folders on your USB stick - do not enter a drive letter or starting/trailing backslash set perlpath=myperl set lmspath=logitechmediaserver set params= :readvars if "%1" == "" goto start set params=%params% %1 shift goto readvars :start set drive=%~d0 set PATH=%drive%\%perlpath%\perl\site\bin;%drive%\%perlpath%\perl\bin;%drive%\%perlpath%\c\bin;%PATH% set TERM=dumb set PERL_JSON_BACKEND= set PERL_YAML_BACKEND= set PERL5LIB= set PERL5OPT= set PERL_MM_OPT= set PERL_MB_OPT= perl.exe %drive%\%lmspath%\slimserver.pl %params% gordonb3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71050 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115600 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Players disappeared after installing a VM
My LMS runs on a Windows machine that serves multiple purposes. Over the weekend, I played around with Home Assistant and had it installed on that server in a VM using VirtualBox. Since then, LMS is not finding any of my players anymore. I noticed that VirtualBox creates a virtual network interface and subnet on the host Windows system. I'm pretty sure that that has something to do with the issue that I'm facing now. Does LMS go look at the wrong subnet to go find players ? [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Portable server install? (Windows external drive)
Going to take my music library on holiday on an external drive. I would like to try a postable install and happily only start LMS from the drive when it's plugged in obviously, but the standard MSI download doesn't even offer the option of selecting the install location. Is there any existing support for this (non-Win Service install) or am I best off installing from source, maybe even under WSL? I tried to search, but the terms "portable" and "install" are far too common. Note this is NOT for the player - that would be Squeezelite-X - just LMS.
