Thanks, I did indeed try those suggestions. The IP did not change, I ended up remounting and rebooting, it sort of helped, for some reason LMS would not keep the location of the files saved, I kept having to go to settings and select the folder location of the NAS. I got some files to play but

Triple check the IP address used on the SB to connect to LMS ... If it is really correct then maybe (unlikely though) you will see somethingin the LMS logs via Settings/Information/Logs (at the bottom). Settings/Advanced/Logging Boost the logging level for network.protocol

I've been using Squeezeboxes for a while. Now after moving house, with stuff still in storage, I brought 2 2nd hand Squeezebox 2's and both are able to connect to the network, get an ip address (which I am able to ping) but then say cannot connect to server, left to go back, right to try again.
