Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] shall I upgrade to Synology 7?

2021-11-06 Thread Stig Nygaard

DSM 6.2 will reach End of Extended Life in June 2023:
'
So there should be yet another 1,5 year to expect security updates and
bugfixes for DSM 6.2.

I'm in no hurry. LMS 8.1.1 is running fine on my DSM 6.2 based Synology.
And on top of that, my NAS is not directly exposed to the internet, so I
probably wouldn't be that afraid of running it like that even past June
2023.

I might or might not try to update to DSM 7 and Docker at some point,
but only if we see new LMS features I badly desire to get. Otherwise I
don't think I have the motivation for the trouble to get a new setup
working.

I was hoping for an option to always sort year descending. Or add extra
sort options:

-Year desc,Album-
-Year desc,Artist,Album-
-Artist,Year desc,Album-

How do I reverse the sort-order? I can only find -Year Ascending- sort
(Year,Album or Year,Artist,Album).

Well, it is on my "might do one day" list (I also have Intel based
Synology NAS). But so far sticking to pinkdot's build seems the easy,
straight-forward and good enough solution. Some day if there some
feature in a future version of LMS I desire, I might go through the
extra trouble finding out configuring a Docker solution.

Not sure if it is your old version, but it IS very old.

I would try pinkdot's Synology build:

https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111876

You might need to block your NAS to update to the future DSM v7 to keep
this working, but that goes for your old LMS776 too.
That is also my tactic with my Synology NAS.

For your Intel based (?) NAS I believe you can install the x86_64 LMS811
build found here:

That applies to me.

But even if you want that scan to happen occasionally, wouldn't it be
nice if you could control the frequency of the scans?

I have had this problem too. Really annoying listening to the harddisks
in my NAS working hard for a period once every hour.

I "solved" it by going to Settings -> Advanced -> Online Music Library
Integration and setting -ALL -dropdowns on top to "Integrate online
library but do not automatically check for changes". In my experience it
it is not enough to just set the dropdown for the services you actually
use. I had to set all the dropdowns like that.

I never reported it (as a bug which I assume it is), so I'm happy to see
others bringing it up :-)

I truly wish webdevelopers had been more eager to support Edge than IE.
Edge has much better support of webstandards than IE. And it is also
good to have three major competing browser engines (from Firefox, Chrome
and Edge). But Edge has never had many users, and Microsoft has given up
making their own engine now. They are preparing a new MS Edge version
build on Chrome technology (Chromium engine). You can try it already
now, the "Dev Channel" seems to work very well and stable:

PS. Personally my choice for daily use, is Firefox.

Something wont work with it. I'm pretty sure for example Spotty (Spotify

I would choose a platform supporting never versions of LMS.

As far as I can see, you can find them all at:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/

With 7.9.1 as the latest "community release":
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.1/

Most people however, just use the nightlies. They are very stable:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9

Here's a changelog for all versions:

If you got a Synology NAS, you might want to check Pinkdot's builds:

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update LMS on Synology NAS ?

2018-01-24 Thread Stig Nygaard

I don't know what Triode's EDO is and you don't tell which Synology NAS
you've got. But I have LMS791 running on my Intel based Synology with
DSM 6.1. It works great. You can find a LMS791 changelist here:
http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/7.9/Changelog7.html

If you turn on support for beta-version apps in Package Center on your
NAS, you might see an official version of LMS791 from Synology. I think
it is called a "beta" because it is based on a nightly build, but
currently 791 nightlies are almost always "production stable". It is, as
I recall, a few months old. If you want something close to latest
version and you have an -Armada375 -or- x86_64 -based NAS, you can get a
newer build by Pinkdot (forum user). That is what I'm running myself:

Go for a 7.9.1 nightly instead. It has a couple of useful updates,
including some fixes for optimal Spotty functionality:

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9

Officially they are "nightlies", but updates are few and conservative at
the moment. So consider 7.9.1 nigthlies just as stable as the 7.9.0
community release.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Which nas to buy??

2017-09-13 Thread Stig Nygaard

Just got curious and did a little more searching on the subject. I'm
assuming (and pretty sure?) that Logitech's current "official" nightly
builds for ReadyNAS devices, doesn't work on any recent Netgear ReadyNAS
models. But it actually sounds like you can install any .deb debian
package on the latest ReadyNAS models as long as they are build for the
right processor family, straight from the administration web-interface
without any "hacking".

Anyone knows if that is true?

If so, it would still make Netgear ReadyNAS models a very recommended
choice in my head.

But I disagree in this. Most NAS'es are (also) made to be application
servers, and are often much more powerful than a RPi. But if you are
going to use your NAS as a pure network harddisk, buy something cheaper
than the one I suggested.

I recently moved from Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 to a Synology DS716+II. I
was very happy with my ReadyNAS Ultra. Logitech makes official nightly
builds for it. Also the Intel processor gave full support for pretty
much any plugins and add-ons, especially after I found out how to
install IO::Socket::SSL on it.

But in the end I decided to make a switch for security reasons, because
there's no SMBv2+ support on it (I have now disabled SMBv1 on my devices
for security reasons) and the ReadyNAS doesn't receive security patches
anymore. My choice was DS716+II because -I have the impression- Synology
has a good reputation and keeps their devices updated for a long time.
Again Intel processor for best possible support, and even though there
are no official nightly builds for it, pinkdot has his LmsUpdate and
LmsRepack projects for regularly updated nightlies. Also the of size of
the NAS is perfect to fit in my CD-rack (like the readyNAS also was) ;-)

Unfortunately pinkdot ain't making new LmsUpdate/LmsRepack builds
anymore, but I think there's a very good change somebody will take over
this (If I get too desperate I might even try myself, it sounds like it
shouldn't be too complicated).

Well, just my reasoning for choosing the DS716+II. There's probably also
good reasons to make other choices :-)

Spotty is a plugin for your media server (Logitech Media Server or
SqueezeCenter as one of its previous names was).
Install Spotty from the plugins page of LMS 7.7 or never!
Announcement is here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107615-Announce-Spotty-v1-1-0

If your software really is called SqueezeCenter, you are probably
running a very old version of LMS. I recommend the latest community
version of Logitech Media Server:

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Why Flash in LMS?

2017-07-03 Thread Stig Nygaard

Allright, I checked the traffic in my browsers Network log when allowing
Flash to be loaded, and I saw no .swf files being loaded when opening
Settings or looking a bit around in settings.
I have never worked with Flash or other browser plugins, but probably
there's a way you can check for support without actually loading any
Flash content, and such a check somewhere might trigger my Firefox
(configured to "Ask to Activate" for Flash plugin) to ask?
Anyway, seems to be a non-issue :-)

Hmm, could be. Haven't thought about that possibility.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Why Flash in LMS?

2017-07-03 Thread Stig Nygaard

This is probably in the category of less critical issues, if it's an
issue at all.
But I have long time been wondering why LMS apparently try to run some
flash content when opening the Settings page?
23037

I do not see any difference if I allow Flash content to run in the
browser, so maybe LMS just checks to see if Flash is supported without
actually using it?

I found some references to a Yahoo Charts control in /html/js.html
(http://yui.yahooapis.com/2.8.2/build/charts/assets/charts.swf).
Probably this one:
http://yui.github.io/yui2/docs/yui_2.9.0_full/charts/index.html

If it is actually used for something, maybe it's time to look for
alternative ways to implement whatever feature it is used for? Also note
the Yahoo site has some security warnings regarding the version of the
app which LMS apparently/maybe are using...

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] HELP- Upgrading to 7.9.0 official totally destroyed soundquality

2017-03-27 Thread Stig Nygaard

Hi

I see we are both ReadyNas Ultra II users (and Danes?).
>From your signature it looks like you are primarily a Tidal user. But if
you by any change should have a Spotify account too, are there anything
that looks familiar in the problems I'm experiencing with Spotify after
upgrading to LMS79x on my ReadyNas Ultra II. That is slow (or not
working) menus/lists in Spotify and maybe also occasional
connection/authorization problems?:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107155-Problems-with-LMS79x-and-Spotify-on-ReadyNAS-Ultra-2-1-3

Are Tidal the way to go if I get tired of Spotify problems on LMS? I've
always been tempted by the lossless streaming WIMP/Tidal has been
offering, but paying the double for it has stopped me from changing ship
so far...
