Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] shall I upgrade to Synology 7?
DSM 6.2 will reach End of Extended Life in June 2023: 'https://global.download.synology.com/download/Document/Software/WhitePaper/Firmware/DSM/All/enu/Synology_Security_Whitepaper.pdf ' (https://global.download.synology.com/download/Document/Software/WhitePaper/Firmware/DSM/All/enu/Synology_Security_Whitepaper.pdf) So there should be yet another 1,5 year to expect security updates and bugfixes for DSM 6.2. I'm in no hurry. LMS 8.1.1 is running fine on my DSM 6.2 based Synology. And on top of that, my NAS is not directly exposed to the internet, so I probably wouldn't be that afraid of running it like that even past June 2023. I might or might not try to update to DSM 7 and Docker at some point, but only if we see new LMS features I badly desire to get. Otherwise I don't think I have the motivation for the trouble to get a new setup working. */Stig* '*rockland*.dk' (https://www.rockland.dk) - '*last.fm*/user/rockland' (https://last.fm/user/rockland) - '*discogs*.com/user/StigNygaard' (https://discogs.com/user/StigNygaard) - '*flickr*.com/photos/stignygaard' (https://flickr.com/photos/stignygaard) *Server:* LMS 8.1.1('LmsUpdate' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111876)) - 1610364019 @ Jan 14 2021 on Synology DS716+II (DSM6.2+Perl5.24). *Clients:* 'RPi3 (Max2Play, 7\" touch, HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro)' (https://shop.max2play.com/en/raspberry-pi-2-bundle-7-display.html), SB Touch, OrangeSqueeze/SqueezePlayer. *Main HiFi:* Marantz PM6005 & F3/Lyd Audiovector 2. Not sure if it is your old version, but it IS very old. I would try pinkdot's Synology build: https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111876 You might need to block your NAS to update to the future DSM v7 to keep this working, but that goes for your old LMS776 too. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update LMS on Synology NAS ?
I don't know what Triode's EDO is and you don't tell which Synology NAS you've got. But I have LMS791 running on my Intel based Synology with DSM 6.1. It works great. You can find a LMS791 changelist here: http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/7.9/Changelog7.html If you turn on support for beta-version apps in Package Center on your NAS, you might see an official version of LMS791 from Synology. I think it is called a "beta" because it is based on a nightly build, but currently 791 nightlies are almost always "production stable". It is, as I recall, a few months old. If you want something close to latest version and you have an -Armada375 -or- x86_64 -based NAS, you can get a newer build by Pinkdot (forum user). Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Which nas to buy??
Just got curious and did a little more searching on the subject. I'm assuming (and pretty sure?) that Logitech's current "official" nightly builds for ReadyNAS devices, doesn't work on any recent Netgear ReadyNAS models. But it actually sounds like you can install any .deb debian package on the latest ReadyNAS models as long as they are build for the right processor family, straight from the administration web-interface without any "hacking". Anyone knows if that is true? If so, it would still make Netgear ReadyNAS models a very recommended choice in my head. */Stig* 'www.*rockland*.dk' (http://www.rockland.dk) - 'www.*last.fm*/user/rockland' (https://last.fm/user/rockland) - 'www.*discogs*.com/user/StigNygaard' (https://discogs.com/user/StigNygaard) - '*plus.google*.com/+StigNygaard' (https://google.me/+StigNygaard) *Server:* LMS 7.9.1 ('LmsRepack' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107180)) - 1503129892 @ Sat Aug 19 on Synology DS716+II. *Clients:* 'RPi3 (Max2Play, 7\" touch, HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro)' (https://shop.max2play.com/en/raspberry-pi-2-bundle-7-display.html), SB Touch, OrangeSqueeze/SqueezePlayer. *Livingroom HiFi:* Marantz PM6005 and F3/Lyd Audiovector 2. I was very happy with my ReadyNAS Ultra. Logitech makes official nightly builds for it. Also the Intel processor gave full support for pretty much any plugins and add-ons, especially after I found out how to install IO::Socket::SSL on it. But in the end I decided to make a switch for security reasons, because there's no SMBv2+ support on it (I have now disabled SMBv1 on my devices for security reasons) and the ReadyNAS doesn't receive security patches anymore. My choice was DS716+II because -I have the impression- Synology has a good reputation and keeps their devices updated for a long time. Again Intel processor for best possible support, and even though there are no official nightly builds for it, pinkdot has his LmsUpdate and LmsRepack projects for regularly updated nightlies. Also the of size of the NAS is perfect to fit in my CD-rack (like the readyNAS also was) ;-) Unfortunately pinkdot ain't making new LmsUpdate/LmsRepack builds anymore, but I think there's a very good change somebody will take over this (If I get too desperate I might even try myself, it sounds like it shouldn't be too complicated). [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Why Flash in LMS?
This is probably in the category of less critical issues, if it's an issue at all. But I have long time been wondering why LMS apparently try to run some flash content when opening the Settings page? 23037 I do not see any difference if I allow Flash content to run in the browser, so maybe LMS just checks to see if Flash is supported without actually using it? I found some references to a Yahoo Charts control in /html/js.html (http://yui.yahooapis.com/2.8.2/build/charts/assets/charts.swf). Probably this one: http://yui.github.io/yui2/docs/yui_2.9.0_full/charts/index.html If it is actually used for something, maybe it's time to look for alternative ways to implement whatever feature it is used for? Also note the Yahoo site has some security warnings regarding the version of the app which LMS apparently/maybe are using... +---+ |Filename: LMS-flash.png| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=23037| +---+ */Stig* 'www.*rockland*.dk' (http://www.rockland.dk) - 'www.*last.fm*/user/rockland' (https://last.fm/user/rockland) - 'www.*discogs*.com/user/StigNygaard' (https://discogs.com/user/StigNygaard) - '*plus.google*.com/+StigNygaard' (https://plus.google.com/+StigNygaard) *Server:* LMS 7.9.1 (LmsRepack) - 1494667952 @ Sat May 13 on Synology DS 716+ II. *Clients:* 'RPi3 (Max2Play, HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro)' (https://shop.max2play.com/en/raspberry-pi-2-bundle-7-display.html), SB Touch, OrangeSqueeze/SqueezePlayer. *Livingroom:* Marantz PM6005 and F3/Lyd Audiovector 2. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] HELP- Upgrading to 7.9.0 official totally destroyed soundquality
Hi I see we are both ReadyNas Ultra II users (and Danes?). >From your signature it looks like you are primarily a Tidal user. But if you by any change should have a Spotify account too, are there anything that looks familiar in the problems I'm experiencing with Spotify after upgrading to LMS79x on my ReadyNas Ultra II. That is slow (or not working) menus/lists in Spotify and maybe also occasional connection/authorization problems?: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107155-Problems-with-LMS79x-and-Spotify-on-ReadyNAS-Ultra-2-1-3 Are Tidal the way to go if I get tired of Spotify problems on LMS? I've always been tempted by the lossless streaming WIMP/Tidal has been offering, but paying the double for it has stopped me from changing ship so far... */Stig* 'http://www.*rockland*.dk' (http://www.rockland.dk) - 'http://www.*last.fm*/user/rockland' (http://www.last.fm/user/rockland) - 'http://www.*discogs*.com/user/StigNygaard' (http://www.discogs.com/user/StigNygaard) - 'https://*plus.google*.com/+StigNygaard' (https://plus.google.com/+StigNygaard) *Server:* LMS 7.8.1 - 1483428886 @ Tue Jan 17 03:15:27 UTC 2017 on ReadyNAS Ultra 2. *Controllers & players:* 2x Squeezebox Touch, [Currently not used: Squeezebox Classic,] 2x OrangeSqueeze You might like to try my *'Art Grabr' (https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/20771-stig-s-art-grabr)* for fetching big *cover-art* from various sites - or *'Album Linkr' (https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/21153-stig-s-last-fm-album-linkr)* for a better *last.fm* desktop experience...
